Confusion over period & Very low hcg level

I am having a very strange pregnancy process. I had my regular period on July 21 (last one June 22), it lasted 5-6 days then on July 30 I started to have spotting. I took pregnancy test and it came out positive. i called the doc the next day and they sent me for blood test. it came out positive. they tested me again 36 hrs later and the value is 214. I had another test 3 days later and it was 223 with progesterone level 4 (very low). the NP said its probably Chemical preg.By now I have stopped bleeding and going for next round of test tomorrow. I am afraid this is an ectopic preg...when will they be able to confirm it and how?

It does sound like a chem preg, I had one a year ago. If it was etopic I would think you would be in terrible pain.
