Copper IUD clotting?

Anyone had problems with your period on the Copper IUD?  I have had it for 9 months...the first 4 months were spent spotting off and on.  When I finally stopped that, I got my period and went through a tampon ever 30min to an hour for the first day...then it got a little lighter after that.  The next month, same thing, but it lasted 2 days.  I talked to my doctor and they started me on hormones to try and reset the cycle.  It didn't work..I started bleeding and bled heavy for like 3 days, and then continued to have a light period for about 3 weeks.  Then I stopped and started again 3 or 4 weeks later.  This time, super heavy again, but it also has clots in it. I know you are shedding the lining of your uterus, but normally there are not clots in your period.  I have had a lot of clots for the first day that was really heavy a super tampon every hour.   Now I am on day 3 of heavy bleeding, no more clots but have been going through a tampon every 1 hour for the last 3 days.  I feel asleep at night and woke up to blood all over me and the bed! I have an appoitment to get my copper IUD checked next week.  She thinks we might just have to take it out.  Anyone else every experience anything like this? Thanks!
