Corpus Luteum?//Open Forum

Hello everyone, well I had a scan yesterday with the hopes of trying another IUI this cycle but my Dr. said we should wait a month because he saw "corpus luteum"? Does any one know exactly what this is I couldn't seem to get a straight answer out of him. Does it affect your ability to concieve (conceive) ? Is it dangerous? So we have to wait a month but then the Dr.'s on vacation in begining of July so we'll have to wait 2 months! Any information any one has on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

sorry, but i don't know anything about corpus luteum - i don't even know what it is, but about your dr. going away on vacation - is there anyone else in his practice for you to see or maybe he can suggest someone just for the time he's gonna be away so you don't have to wait another month? don't really know if this is much of an idea, but i would hate to wait the extra month - the waiting game is hard as it is. good luck though with everything.

The corpus luteum is the cyst that forms on your ovary after you O.  If you become pregnant, the corpus luteum is what proides nutrients to the embryo before the placenta is formed.

Even if you don't see your doctor for another month, you can always call another Obgn and ask the question to the receptionish who in turn can have the doctor call you.  I've done that before.

Hey Diamondtracy,  I am very sorry not to have any information for you as I have never even heard of a Corpus Luteum b4 :( doesnt sound nice.  It is heartbreaking that you have to wait and when you will be ready your god (dr) will be on holidays....I call my dr 'god' as he is the only one that actually got me to ovulate from having PCOS.

I have a question since diamondtracy has been kind enough to include an open forum and share her thread and I didnt feel what i have to ask worth using a valuable thread on:

I was just wondering if the first af after a dnc goes for as long as a normal af would? I know and am experiencing a lot heavier flow with a few clots which is usually accompanied in my normal af (sorry tmi) but was wonder if it stays heavy for a solid week or just a couple of days and drops off???  I started af yesterday and it came heavy in matter of 2hours from starting and it is really heavy (changed pads twice thru the night last night wen i can usually wait til morning) and it feels like it is building up whilst i am sitting and when i stand or release pressure from sitting it just flows (sorry again tmi), I am hoping that yesterday and today are going to be it cos I dont know if i can handle another day of such a huge loss??? anything would help.

Just to clarify, the corpus luteum is not bad.  Every woman has this after they O.  You have it every cycle.  It just means that you have already Oed, that's it.

After my dnc in 02/06 I had heavy bleding for several weeks.  Soaking pads in just a few minutes, large clots, etc.  It eventually went away after about 25 days.  Dont worry - you are fine.  Itll go away soon.

No, don't feel bad.  I just wanted to clarify that every woman has this b/c I did not really do that in my original post.  No worries.

OMG that sounds dreadful! I just wanted to clearup was that straight after your dnc or like weeks after when af was due?  it has been 6wks exactly today since i had dnc and started af yesterday.  Bring on the BD this month for sure. lol

Greenpixie: if you read this, its all good honey, glad someone had a smart head on there shoulders and could clear it all up, dont know about you but since having dramas getting pregnant i have learnt so many things I dont think half of 'lucky' easy to get pregnant ladies would know about their bodies.

ok well now that i know what corpus luteum is (i think) i can tell you that i've had cysts in my ovaries after using clomid - caused by overstimulation of the ovaries and i think my dr. just took a break from clomid for a month - i was still able to try just didn't take clomid. but i also know that when i was pregnant i had a cyst on my ovary which dr. was not concerned about - he said it's fine for the pregnancy - he actually said it's good for it, but didn't elaborate - so don't know exactly what he meant by that. i ended up m/c but it had nothing to do with the cyst (turns out i have mhftr). good luck again.

just wondering what #'s are supposed to be almost week after ovulation. i don't really bbt, but just took my temp this morn for the heck of it and it was about 98.04 (or 98.4, but i think the one before - as you can tell i'm really good at this bbt thing) anyway, i had not gotten out of bed yet and the truth is i haven't taken before so probably can't tell anything from it anyway just thought i'd ask though. thanks in advance.

Think of the corpus luteum as the "egg shell" after you ovulate. It is the corpus luteum that is supposed to produce the progesterone your body needs once you conceive, and for the first 12 weeks until the placenta takes over. If you don't conceive, the corpus luteum sort of shrivels up, and stops producing progesterone. When the progesterone drops, your body knows to start your period. I don't know why seeing it would affect your options for ttc for this month. Maybe he saw that you were at the wrong point in your cycle because you've already ovulated. That's all I can think of.

It was right after, then cleared up for about four days at around 12 days post op then started again with a vengence.  Sometimes there is a clot blocking the cervix, and things just sort of buil up till it passes.  (That is what my dr explained to me at the time at least.)
