Corpus Luteum Cyst

Corpus Luteum Cyst

Hi Everyone,

Just after a bit of advice or reassurance I guess. I am supposed to be 6 weeks pregnant...I went for a scan at about 4 weeks and they couldn't see any gestational sac but they found a cyst on my left ovary. I read that a cyst can cause a positive pregnancy result and similar symptoms. I have all the symptoms of pregnancy, tender breasts, nausea, tiredness, frequent urination. Has anyone else had this experience?? I am really concerned because we have been trying for this 2nd pregnancy for soooo long!!!

A corpus luteum cyst doesn't cause false positive pregnancy tests.

When is your follow up scan?

Did you actually get a positive pregnancy test or did you just assume you are pregnant because you have been trying and missed your period?

I have had 4 positive pregnancy results, one of those is by blood test. Doctor has assured me there is nothing to worry about. I am nervously awaiting my next scan which is on the 18th of December. I think I was just panicking because of the information I found on the web, my doctor told me it wasn't right and I should stop worrying, the scan was way too early to see anything anyway.

Thankyou for your comments.

Corpus luteum cyst is a normal part of your cycle whether you are pregnant or not. They usually resolve/reabsorb in a few months. It is only of concern if it is NOT a corpus luteum cyst and rather an ovarian cyst/tumor (something I believe they watch, to see if it gets bigger/smaller and if they're really worried they biopsy.) I had 2 on the same ovary when I went for my 12 week u/s at like 4 cm each; one was gone, other as down to 2 cm at 19 wks.

Probably too  early to see baby on u/s... did they reschedule one for 7-8 weeks? Was it vaginal? Good equipment? They can do the hcg blood test also every 48 hrs to make sure bloodcount doubles.
