Are you referring to the corpus luteum cyst or corpus luteum?  The corpus luteum simply secretes estrogens and progesterone to support a pregnancy.  Sometimes, it grows bigger than normal.  In such case, it comes a cyst but usually goes away without treatment.

The corpus luteum is the cyst left over on your ovary after you ovulate. It produces progesterone until right before you start your period. If you become pregnant, it should produce progesterone for about the first 10-12 weeks of the pregnancy, until the placenta takes over.
