Aww, sorry Gavin's not feeling well. I can't give you any advice just wanted to wish him to get well soon. How are you feeling? How many weeks are you now?
I'm assuming his ped is aware that he still has a cough? My peds are always most concerned about a prolonged cough and want to check their lungs for signs of pnuemonia (pneumonia)...so make sure they know if they don't.
Also, if it isn't bad, is it possible that it has become a habit? Or does he have post-nasal drip from the sinus infection clearing up? Does he have a fever?
I'm so sorry he's not feeling well and that you have to go through the worry of a sick little one...let us know what the ped suggests and how you both are doing.
I was not allowed to give dd anything during her bad cough. Doctor said not until over the age of 2. I had to let her cough for about 5 weeks. Even 3 ER visits and those doctors said the same thing. They all said its best not to use anything but a vaporizor/humidifier. Good Luck. DD is better but it took a long time.
One other thing...my ped usually doesn't have us give cough med unless it's interferring with nighttime sleep b/c it's the body's way of getting the mucus out (and can perhaps make things worse as Andi said). Also, not sure if this is the cold med they have advised not giving to kids under 2...I realize your ped told you to give it to him, but just wanted to mention if for safety's sake.
I put vick's vapor rub under my dd's nose before she goes to be and on her chest. Also I have heard put the rub on their feet and put socks on. DD only coughs in the middle of the night, I may have to try the sock thing....
Hi my ladies. Gavin’s cough is not real bad at all, just here and there and no sinus stuff anymore. He eats, sleeps and plays fine. Yes, I just got the plain old Robitussin but saw that Mucinex is 3x more expensive and want to know if there’s a big difference. I am going to give him to the end of the week before I call the ped.
Andy, where the heck have you been? I only saw you posting on that long divorce post…..how’s the kiddos?
Me2, what’s up? How’s the baby latching on? I don’t think you told me the name. You can pm me if you want if you don’t want it public. I am feeling good. I will be 18 week on Sun and will find out on 4-7, 19 more days, I can’t wait!

Doll, we named him Ilan (pronounced ee-lan). His latch is improving. I still have to "remind" him from time to time to latch on correctly. Wow, 18 weeks already. Feels like just yesterday you were telling us about your BFP. Well, I can't believe I have a little one in the bassinett now either. Feels like just a few short weeks ago I was announcing my BFP. Boy, time flies!
I've been fielding questions via pm, but am still posting on here pretty frequently, just not on all the exciting threads. That and I just finished up Winter quarter and the kids keep me crazy busy.
I am always here reading, just not always posting. Not much to say to some of the repeat posters posting the same questions over and over. Seems people don't much appreciate being told to suck it up : )
If your son's cough is not that bad but does have a pattern you may want to call your doctor sooner. it is allergy season he may have an allergy and not a cold at all? Just a thought. I have learned a lot about this stuff over the past 4 months. My dd was diagnosed with Asthma and the main factor in that was a cough she had every morning and just in the morning. The pulminolgy doctor at CHOP was able to diagnose her within two hours. It came as a shock to me. She now is on meds for that. Cold medication could be damaging if it is not needed.
Me 2, I like the name it's unique and cute, what's the middle name? I am glad his latch is improving. It will get better. It's so crazy to think about how fat time flies! How's Ariella doing with baby IIan? Is she still acting out? I have been feeling the lil' peanut more and it's the best feeling. I miss those movements.
Andi, I see, I wish I can be in your position now, staying home with my baby and baby to be but my parents just moved in with us a couple months ago and they take care of Gavin most of the week so I don't feel so bad.
I know, there's been a lot od "different" post on this maternal forum. I don't usually read all of them but some. I just want to help awith my past experience but of course it's not usually appreciated. Oh well!
Cant, yes, Gavin has allergy and is on Zyrtec. I don't give him cold meds just the plain Robitussin. He doesn't whees so I didn't think of Asthma. What are the symptoms?
dd didn't have any symptoms either they just said due to the history in the family and her horrible eczema that pretty much goes with it. She had this cough and it was only in the morning. When she gets a cold her cough gets worse and hangs around longer. he said they were all sure signs of Asthma. They believe that during one of her seizure episodes last year that is what happened. This was all found out during a battery of tests to find out why my dd had three episodes in two months. The end result was reflux along with asthma, caused her airway to become blocked causing her to pass out, turn blue and seize. I would have never guessed ashtma so that is why I ask if your son has a pattern to the cough. But since he has allergies I would say that is what his cough is from. tickle rather then a cold since it is dry.
I am not an expert in any way I just wanted to let you know what the doctor told me about that darn annoying cough. Good luck!
Also, if it isn't bad, is it possible that it has become a habit? Or does he have post-nasal drip from the sinus infection clearing up? Does he have a fever?
