Could my water have broken?

Could my water have broken?

Good afternoon ladies.
My bf and I bd last night for the first time in forever cause I don't see him anymore and he was over helping me out.  Anyways, while bd I was very very dry and I am 16 weeks preggers.  Now my question is..... we had tried several things to make it more pleasurable but without luck.  However we were able to make it a little better.  Anyways.... while bd we felt a big gush of water.  We weren't sure what it was. I have had some back pain since then but not bad.  I get that either way after bding.  Could I please get some input.  What would it have looked like this early in pregnancy?  We didn't see no blood or mucus plug.  It was just very very watery.

i'm not sure what that was. i've never had that experience. all i know is that you're not supposed to have sex while on your back. were you? go to www.ask.com and ask your question.

First, I am very sorry you are having to go through this.  It's very difficult.

As for your question, I am not a hygenist, however, two different hygenists at the office I go to have both delivered healthy babies in the last 1.5 years.  The dentist has three children and his wife was his hygenists during that time.

They also use that type of cleaner to clean baby products from what I just read on the internet.

Try not to blame yourself.

Take care.

I honestly don't know, I think it's unlikely, but I couldn't swear it couldn't happen.  I would go to the hospital (My local maternity hospital were very kind to me last anxious pregnancy when I would show up needing ultrasounds and foetal heart rate monitoring at strange hours, in a state of panic.  The baby is fine, by the way, he is one, and he never had any pregnancy problems, in spite of his mothers tendancy to panic).  There can be a lot of very strange fluids in pregnancy.  I thought my water had broken twice (near my due date) in my last pregnancy.  I have never heard that you shouldn't have sex on your back in pregnancy, only that it could be uncomfortable, and that you shouldn't lie on your back for more than 20 minutes after 28 weeks  Can someone tell me more about this?

you should go to the er to find out they say it smells a bit like bleach when it breaks early is what i was told.
I had this test done when i was pregnant last time were they did a swab of my cervix they put this stuff on it if it turns black its waters if it dosent its just normal discharge thats probly all it is but best to get checked good luck.

Cowgirlup, you really need to go to the Dr or local Er if you said it was a "gush". It could have def. been your water. Sometimes women experience intense orgasms though and it can come out like a gush, not to be to descriptive but it's the truth. But I would go get checked, better safe than sorry. My friends water just broke at full term and she didn't have any contractions or anything, this being her first baby she didnt go to the Dr. They had to insert water back into her so she wouldn't have a dry birth. But at 16 weeks there isn't really a chance for survival for the fetus. Please go to the Dr.

Clarabear, I just asked my Dr this question when i had my check up friday about when to stop sleeping on my back. She said not to sleep on your back once you hit 16 weeks, and do not lie on your back while having sex. If the babys cord is underneath or the baby is facing towards your back it can lie on the cord and cut the ocygen supply off to the baby.

I hope this has helped some. Good luck to you and God Bless!

thank you for your replies.  I called the dr at 5pm yesterday and he said to take some tylenol and f/u in the am.  However, it's 3:42am and I am just getting home from work after leaving early causse the back pain has gotten worse and now I have some light spotting.  Not too mention the additional stress of my job telling me if I left I would be fired... So I left. I had called the dr at 2:30am and he told me to go home try a heating pad or ice which ever helped take some more tylenol and then call him in 2 hours and he will make special arrangements for me to be seen asap at L&D if the pain does not get better.  He would rather me wait until office hours to be seen and avoid the er trip all together and that way he can do all the tests himself.  He said if he did not hear from me he would call me by 9:30am with a time to come see him.  I will let you ladies know what happened.  Thanks for the support.

good luck!  I am MAD at your doctor. They are paid well enough that they should hold your hand if you need it.  Maternal mental health is as important as physical health.  I had excellent care last pregnancy and never had any trouble getting check ups I didn't strictly need because I was anxious.  But a friend of mine actually moved in with her parents for pregnancy so she could go to a more sympathetic hospital - after a neonatal loss the standard care she was offered wasn't good enough.  You shouldn't feel bad for "hassling", you are doing a great job looking after your baby's intrests.  Sticky baby dust to you.

on pg #2 for me, i leaked water since i was about 10 weeks.  mine was an on/off leak, like when you sneeze and loose a bit of control with your urine...kind of like that.  but not that, it was from my vagina.
go to the dr/hospital.  they will check with strips of paper to see if its am. fluid.  mine was clear, no smell, etc.
impt. note:  DO NOT have bd until you know for sure, dont take a bath, only showers, and if you start a fever/extreemely sore spot on your tummy, or feel sick all of a sudden, go the hospital immediately.  prematurely ruptured membranes can be an infection risk, and you cant wait long for medical treatment.  if your waters have broken, they will need to monitor you very closely.  they put me on some preventative antibiotics, and i had to go sit in a hospital after about 22 weeks to monitor infection.  i dont mean to scare you, but i want you and your baby to be ok.  :)  let us know what you find out.
hopefully, it was just discharge, or urine.  good luck and prayers for you.

Thank you for your input. I am also worried about it. I have been experiencing back pain for a while now (3weeks) they told me it was just ligiment pain. I was thinking about it this morning while trying to get rid of the pain the back pain and belly pain had increased prior to bd with bf. I didn't think anything of it cause they keep telling me its normal.  But I don't think when it hurts to walk, sit or lay down its normal.  I am afraid to go to the dr's today cause he is already irritated with me being there every week. I called them back and asked for permission to go to the er cause er won't treat unless you have permission from your ob and they denied it.  The dr said I had to see him and that they wouldn't do anything for me.  Well quite frankly I feel he won't either and I feel like everytime I go in there I am wasting his time or at least that's the impression I get.  My appt is at 1:30 in about an hour so I will have to see what happens. This pregnancy has been very hard and I have been very depressed the entire time.  Sometimes I wonder if I cause the pains.. But I don't think so I think that feeling like I am a bother to the office makes me feel worse.  My hormones are all over the place and some days I am okay.  Well I will let you know either way.

i totally know how it is to bother your dr.  with that twin preg i was calling 5 times a week.  they were pretty nice about it though.  im kinda upset that your dr is not being more supportive.  it is serious if your waters have broken and they should take a "gush of water" more seriously.  When i got sick from the infection, i went from normal, to high fever quickly.  now, remember, that i sat around with a leaking amniotic sack for 14 weeks!  If they are not getting you checked regurlarly, keep checking your temp for fever.  that is one of the sure signs.  of course, this might all be for not...because your waters might not have broken at all.  you might have lost some urine, as there might have been pressure on your bladder.  have you found out anymore about the 2 heartbeats?  with my twins, only one twin had leaking water.  they told me the multiple fetuses can sometimes cause problems like that.  good luck at the doctor.  i'll be thinking of you.

Good morning.  It is 4am and I am just getting home from the Er.  I went to my dr's office and I did not like what he had to say.  he told me that I strained my back muscles and it was not pregnancy related.  How did I know he was going to say that.  He also told me to take 600mg of Ibuprofen no more no less 3-4 times a day for 5 days.  I was not impressed with that either and did not like the idea of taking a med everyone knows you ar enot suppose to take while pregnant.  So I waited until his office closed and I went to the Er.  Now after waiting 12 hours, yes I said 12 hours lol i got this really nice lady dr who did an u/s and a pelvic exam.  There was some yellow d/c and when they did the u/s the baby is fine was very active however she could not tell if there was a small leak.  She told me also that my placenta is in a posterior position and is putting pressure on my back.  She would not release me back to work until I spoke with my Ob.  Now I know he will release me however I am also suppose to get another u/s done by a specialist to measure the fluid amounts. I don't think this OB will do this for me.  He insists that this was not pregnancy related and I needed to stop complaining of my back and stomach pain that it was just ligiment.  Anyways, I am going to male lots of calls early today and see what I can do to switch ob care.
workingmom4, they say they only see one baby and the other hb must have been an echo.  Hope there are no surprises lol.

You can take Ibuprofen up until about 28 weeks, but it is not encouraged and you should only do it with a physicians advice.
You were right to get the leaking checked out and it sounds like you need a new doctor who will not make you feel like you are bothering him.

glad you are getting a 2nd opinion.  glad also they saw one baby.  twins are wonderful, but they do put you in a high risk situation and possiblity for more complications.
with my "leaking" sac, they could see low fluid amts on the us, and even asked me if my water had broke.  at the time i didn't know what was going on ,and hadn't really started leaking yet.  just woke up on morning with wet pants, but it kind of felt more damp, like i was sweaty.  anywho, they could tell from the us.  i am hoping that you just peed your pants!  :) that is something that can be fixed!  --still thinking of you.

I was thinking about you all day and  night yesterday.  I am glad that everything seems to be OK.  I was so scared for you...  I really do hope that you are complaining over ""NOTHING"" :-)  As far as your doctor goes, he should have been more than willing to preform all the tests needed to ease your mind.  I am sorry that he is so stupid.  I hope you get a better doctor!! When it comes to the life of your child, it is not easy to NOT WORRY!!  If he isnt willing to help you out when you are stressed then you dont need to see him.  I would honestly find out who his superior is and complain to them.  Also, I hope your job gives you a second chance.  Good luck and i am glad you went for that 2nd opinion.. Get some sleep!!!
