Could ultrasound be wrong?

Could ultrasound be wrong?

I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant, the doctor has me at 8 1/2 weeks. I had a ultrasound last week and my baby measured close to 0.6mm (no heartbeat). This week I returned for another ultrasound still no heartbeat baby measured 0.46mm (different doc & different machine). I know this doesn't sound good, but I have no symptoms of misscarriage. Just wondering if ultrasound can misread in early pregnancy. Any one else have similar situation?

Usually, early ultrasounds are very accurate however, if you are off on your dates, that could make a difference.  6 weeks is usually when you start to see a heartbeat on a transvaginal ultrasound. It is weird for the size to change and I will agree with you that with no heartbeat, it doesn't look good.  But, I'm hoping they are planning to do another ultrasound OR are they tracking your HCG levels every 48 hours to see if they are doubling?

I will be going back in for ultrasound early next week, they are not however tracking my HCG levels. Should I ask that they do that?
Keep in mind this is my first pregnancy, I'm new at this.

Normally, tracking HCG Levels is not an issue. With my first two kiddos, I never had them check HCG but when you are in question about whether the pregnancy is viable or not, it's important to check them. HCG levels should double every 48 hours.  I would ask that they check since they aren't able to tell you a lot on ultrasound right now. Have they seen a fetal pole, sac, etc. or what have they seen on ultrasound?  If you have a miscarriage, they also check your levels to make sure that you get back down below 5.  I'd ask your doc, about it.  Good luck.

If you are just looking around the internet for information or trying to find someone in your similar situation you may want to check out misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com.  I'm sure you will find something there.  The u/s early next weeks should give you some sort of answers.  I was told that at 7 weeks you could see the h/b so according to your dates, you should be there next week.  Giving it a good week you should see some new developements at least on the next u/s if all is well.  I know with my u/s they were off by a few days each time.  Every other week the baby would grow an extra two days so my first sonogram was off by 6+ days.  This was also different doctors and different machines.  Who knows, that could be what is going on here. Good Luck!!

Thank you for referring me to www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com (promising stories). I think I will start looking for a new OBgyn. My last doc was so pessamistic, that when I did call and suggest that we test my HCG levels they basically said no. Please keep all your positive thoughts and prayers coming. No miscarriage yet!
Thank You
