Cytotec (Misoprostol)

Cytotec (Misoprostol)

Hi,
I have just been prescribed cytotec (misoprostol) after a miscarriage for a "sluggish" HCG 968 today.  My M/C was on Dec 2nd/06.  Has anyone had to take this?  What can I expect for side effects?

Hello-I took Cytotec 12/22 rather than waiting around for the m/c my doctor promised would occur.  Perhaps I was luckier than some--absolutely no cramping, but I had terrible back pain through the spotting and m/c.  I don't think that was due to the medication, though.  My dr. said to lay down for one hour after 'taking' the cytotec, so I did.  I didn't have any other problems that I would associate with anything other than m/c.  I did have a bad headache that began about 4 days after taking the drug and lasted about 4 days as well, but the dr. associated that with hormone issues, not the drug.  In short, I don't think there were any side effects to the drug other than what it was intended for.

Good luck to you.

Thanks.   I am going to take my first 4 pills in a few hours and I'm a bit scared.

Oh boy, I feel for you.  I was alone-my husband was at work when I took the pills-and I too was a wreck.  I cried and cried, couldn't believe that I was doing it.  But I made it through.  You will, too, I'm sure.  Hang in there!

I took the pills and I've had tonnes of cramping but no blood or spotting?  My last few U/S have been negative but my beta is still 968.  So strange.

Hi it's me emra,  My doctor perscribe Misoprostol to be taken vaginally to get my m/c started. Within an hour the cramping started. 2 hours later I was in agony and called the doctor.  She sent me to the er. they took me immediately as I was in hysterics due to the cramping I was having.  To make a long story short. I just got home from the hospital and in the end because of the severe cramping and pain the ended up doing a d n c at 3am today.  I lost so much blood and my blood pressure is very low. Can you believe they sent me home like this.?  I'm not trying to scare anyone by this post but honestly I prepared myself for the worst pain and it was even worse than that.  I don't understand why they had to put me though that. It was so tramatic losing the baby and then to have go through that pain and in the end to end up doing a d n c anyway. (My poor boyfriend ended up getting into a car accident rushing me to the hospital. He sideswiped a UPS van, that followed us he then got out at a redlight and came to our truck, when he took one look at me he knew I was really in a bad way and told my BF to get me to the hospital fast thank goodness he didn't charge us or no one was hurt but my man was so scared for me.)

I took the pills in June and it took a few hours, then I started to cramp heavily and bleed heavily too.  My m/c was just like the Dr. told me it would be, after it got intense, I passed the sac and big clots in a few minutes, but the cramping was pretty bad and lasted a few days.  It felt like labor at the end as I passed everything, but not quite as bad, and then it got better.  If you don't see any results in a few hours, you may need to repeat your dose in 24 hours, sometimes that happens.  Just check with your Dr. if you have any problems or questions.  Sorry you have to go through this, it will get better.

Oh Emra!  That is awful!!! I feel so bad for you and your boyfriend.  A M/C is the worst.  I hope that you get lots of rest and drink lots of fluid to get that BP up over the next few days.  Take care of yourself.  When you guys are ready to try again I hope that you have lots of luck.  All the best and love and prayers your way.

The bleeding looks bad, you do lose what looks like alot, you have all of that lining to go.  I'm sorry to hear about your experience Emra, I hope you feel better soon.  It does get painful, feels a lot like labor.  Hopefully it works better for you hoogie.  I had no problems, but everyone is different.  Good luck.
