Cytotec Vs. DNC

by mim123, Jan 04, 2007 12:00AM
has anyone had 3 D&Cs and have carried a baby to term? As some of you may know, I have to choose between D&C and Cytotec soon due to abnormal pregnancy. Considering that Ive had 2 D&cs before, I am concerned about scar tissue, but I am even more scared of the pills. My doctor is indifferent to either methods and thinks they are both safe. What should I Do?

Hi There. I had a D&C for a miscarriage and a Methotrexate injection for an ectopic pregnancy last year and found the injection traumatic as the passing of the tissue and cramping was painful. I would assume Cytotec is the same. However having said that it was less invasive. I have always wondered if my previous D&C was the possible cause of my ensuing ectopic. Please check with your doctor how long you have to wait before TTC again though as I had to wait 3 months. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have more queries. All the best.

I just had my first miscarraige and had cytotec done 10 days ago. I liked the cytotec because it was very non invasive. I had the procedure done  at 4 pm on a Friday and was in mild pain from 8- 1 am (very bearable) and then in significant pain from 1:30 am-3:00 am. But I had pain medications and a heating pad which helped. My only concern now though is that I'm still bleeding and as she mentions above she had to wait 3 months to try to get pregnant again. So it may be that DNC is a quicker procedure that may allow you to try sooner.  I do not know for sure but this is something to consider as well.

When you get a d&c done does your dr. use an ultrasound? I was reading and if they use an u/s then they can stop when the tissue is gone making it less likely to have scarring. Hope that makes sense.
