I posted on here a couple of weeks ago about my pregnancy. I went for an ultrasound at 6w1d and only a sac was seen. Had two blood draws and HCG had only barely increased. Went for another ultrasound at 7w2d, sac size was still only 5w2d but then a yolk sac was visible. My pregnancy syptoms (symptoms) have pretty much ceased, so I feel like I'll have a miscarriage, but the waiting is killing me. I'm supposed to go for another u/s next week. I really don't want to get a d&C because I've heard they can scar and cause fertilization problems? My doctor also told me there is a medication they can give me that will cause a miscarriage...has anyone done this? And anyone have thoughts on d&c as opposed to natural m/c? Thanks for your help!

My understanding is that many women opt for d&c because having a natural miscarriage can take a while and many women find the experience emotionally disturbing/draining.  I wouldn't force the miscarriage through medication; however.  You never know if God could have a miracle in store for you if you just wait on Him, and if you do mc, it will be in His perfect timing.

Hi.  I had the same thing and it was terrible waiting.  I wasn't having any bleeding or cramping so it was hard to accept.

I did the medical.  It was a quick office visit to insert the medicine.  The bleeding started out slow and then increased over the next few days, passing clots, etc.  It continued on and off for a couple of weeks, but tapered with some days nothing.

I didn't want the D&C either so this worked well for me.

I hope you have a better US than I did -- good luck and let us know.

Hi.

Just a comment about responses...

I would wait for a f/u US.  I did and when I had the last one I knew my doc was right.  She was willing to wait and continue with US until I felt there was no hope of viability.

I didn't want to wait any longer for a natural -- had already been about 2 weeks and the D&C is invasive and carries risks.  The medical seems the closest to going naturally (I was early, so it was really like a normal AF).  It does nothing more than induce bleeding.  It doesn't stay in the system for even a day and it does not affect fertility or the eggs.

In addition, it doesn't remove the entire uterine lining like a D&C -- just what would normally happen during AF (plus tissue) so your lining doesn't have as much building up to do as with a D&C.

As always, it is a personal decision.  Just weighing in.

Good luck.

I would wait before making any decision, I have read enough stories of early u/s where they saw nothing that ended up in successful pregnancies. Are you sure about your dates? Maybe it is too early. About the D&C I had one 6 weeks ago under total anaesthetic, it took about 10 minutes, I was home in 2.5 hours  and I fully recovered in 2 days, it was not as bad as I thought it would be at all. My baby had died 2 weeks before and I did not want to risk infections and I found it terrible to think I was carrying my dead baby. There is a very small risk of uterus preforation during the procedure but it is "fixable". Hopefully your pregnancy is ok. Good luck!
