I m/c naturally but then they did the d&c the next day because I hadn't passed everything.  It was over quickly and I cramped and bleed for the next couple days.  I was completly out for the procedure so it didn't hurt

When I had my d&c, it was a one day procedure.  I was put under by IV medication.  Basically, the doctor dialates your cervix so that he/she can insert a suction and clean the walls of the uterus.  This is the method my doctor used.  Some women have bleeding afterwards and others have none.  I took some Aleve for light cramping but was pretty much back to normal in 2 days.  I was a little achy for about 24 hours.  I had it because I just did not want to go through a 3rd natural miscarriage.  With a d&c, it's over quickly.

As it happens I am 41 and ttc and had a d&c in Jan at 12wks. The entire thing from check in to check out was about 3 1/2 hrs. The actual procedure took about 15 mins. Dr said they had to scrape quite a bit where was attached, but no permanent damage. I bled pretty heavy for a few days then spotted for a long time. I was quite sore for a few days and couldn't lift anything for a while. Dr said I may have never had a nat mc and d&c was best option. Plus, I don't think I could have handled carrying him knowing he was deceased. He died the day b4 and had d&c next am. I just started 5th af since and hope this is the one.

The benefit of having a DNC is just that you are sure all of the tissue has been removed at one time.  If you opt for a natural miscarriage you are never quite sure how long the process will take.  I have read some posts where woman said they were still bleeding 8-9 weeks later.  I had a miscarriage in Feb. of this year and opted for a medical miscarriage where pills are inserted into the cervix in order to force dialation.  I only bled for about 2 weeks and then had a regular period three weeks after that.  Having a DNC increases your risk of developing scar tissue which can inhibit implantation in the event it tries to implant on the area of the scar tissue.  It is my understanding that this is not typically the case but they do warn of it nonetheless.  Have you currently had a miscarriage?  Best of luck.

With my D&C, I took a pill the night before the procedure to dialate my cervix.  Then arrived at the hospital the next morning, where I received IV for the procedure.  It was over with in a matter of minutes.  The longest part was hooking the iv and signing in.  I went home after I was able to urinate.  You pretty much don't feel like doing anything that first day.  I had my procedure done on a Thursday, so I took Friday off from work and had the weekend to recooperate.  I did have bleeding afterwards, for about a week or so.  The doctor suggested a D&C for me because my body would not hurry up and recognize I had a failed pregnancy and it was a choice my husband I chose to help move on with the healing process of a miscarriage.

I have been trying to get pregnant for about 8 months, then i found out i had policystic ovaries after skipping my period for 6 months, my doctor suggested a D&C and said that after that i would have improved chances of getting pregnant.  Should i go for it, will it help?  Please send replys to chantell.***@**** please.
