Decline in HcG Levels

Decline in HcG Levels

My best friend is 8 weeks pregnant.  She has had 3 m/c, one of which she carried to term but the baby was still born.
She has lupus and takes medication to keep her blood from clotting.  Her HcG levels were tested last week.  This week there was a decline of 3000 (significant decline as the doctor stated).  She had an u/s the same day but the doctoer was unable to determine anything.  I asked if they heard a heartbeat but she seems to think that a heartbeat cannot be heard at 8 weeks but everything else I have read says it should most clearly be heard.  She is scheduled for a transvag u/s in two days.  What are her chances of carrying a healthy baby to term and what significance does a decline in HcG levels mean in her case?

A decline in HCG by 3000 definitely indicates a miscarriage. I'm sorry, but there is no other reason for lvls to drop that drastically. Infact they are supposed to double every 48-72hrs. Once again I'm sorry and I wish your friend the best of luck.

I guess she was holding out hope because there has been no spotting or bleeding yet as she had significant bleeding with her other miscarriages, but thanks for the insight.
