Diaper Question - Advice?

Diaper Question - Advice?

my son is 16 months old now. every single morning for the past two months almost - he wakes up having soaked through his diaper. everything is wet and full of pee. im sure its not pleasant to sleep that way and even less pleasant to have to get a full wipe down and change when you first wake up. it used to happen here and there, no big deal, but it is consistently every night now. what can i do? i feel so bad for him having to sleep in that, but am i suppose to wake him up in the middle of the nite to change him? i fear i wont ever get him back to sleep! i am getting tired of changing out his sheets/blankets every day (and so is my washing machine). is there anything i can do?

What kind of diapers? I had this problem until I started using Huggues again. He didn't leak ever with Huggies. Then I had to use a box of Luvs up from my storage room and what do ya know? I've had to wash my sheets two days in a row cuz pee leaked on them!! Back to Huggies, especially overnight.

Avery used to be the same way. I used to have to double dipe (as I would call it) since she was a couple months old. Then when she got bigger the Huggies Overnites fit her and she wears one of them every night. Prior to that I would put a regular diaper on her and then a Huggies Overnites dipe.  Try the Huggies Overnites I think they work great. I bet she has only leaked through twice since we started using those. Saves alot of time and hassle! :) Good luck!

I don't really know much about diapers since I'm pregnant with my first, but I saw a post a while back about a similar issue (can't remember which forum).  The ladies there suggested going up to the next diaper size.  They said that even though size wise they still fit, absorbency wise, the diapers may have been the wrong size for the baby.  Since I can't speak from experience, I just thought I'd pass along what I had read.  Hope you are able to find a solution!

thanks everyone! i use huggies. i have tried almost every other kind of diaper there is and i like huggies the best. during the day there is almost never any problems, unless i put the diaper on completely wrong or something, but i def prefer huggies over anything else. i think i will try the huggies overnites. i didnt even know there was such a thing! i always just go to sams club. grab my huggies and leave, so i never really 'shop around' the diaper aisle at the supermarket. if i have no luck with that, then maybe i will go up a size. thanks again! :o)

oh and he does get a bottle right before bedtime. i don't usually change him after that b/c he falls asleep most of the time. i change his diaper right before the bottle though....

You can also buy something called Diaper Doublers.  They fit inside the diaper.

Well he must be a little pee machine then: LOL I haven't EVER had a Huggies leak!!
But ya, try the overnights like someone suggested. maybe theyre a little better since they are made specifically for overnight

years ago when i used to babysit the mother i sat for used to put a feminie pad inside her sons diaper only at night... i thought it seemed insane but never really asked any questions... this day and age it must be very similar to the diaper doublers that someone mentioned... seems weird as heck,, but i guess if it might help......... then go for a try

I use Huggies (Supremes) and I agree, they are the best diapers out there. I used to not mind getting up for a 10 minute middle of the night diaper change and feed when my son would wake up (he usually fell back asleep every time he woke up,  but then he started a phase he would eventually start crying until I came in there at least once during the night). I always had the fear that he would "leak" when he stopped waking up, but luckily that's only happened once.

The thing that has helped the most is that I give either give him a full bottle about an hour before bed (this is about an hour after he has something to eat so that he'll also have food on his stomach before bedtime) or I give him a "small" bottle right before bed. Not sure if this would help you, but it's something to think about.

thanks again everyone.

jenny100 - he IS a pee machine! haha. even during the day, you wouldnt believe have often we have to change him. he does drink a lot of water though too. he LOVEs water but is not so fond of juice (which isn't a bad thing).

basill - wow. i never thought of that. it must be similar to the 'diaper doubler' peekawho mentioned. maybe i will do a price comparison and go for the less expensive first. im willing to try anything at this point. i love that he sleeps through the nite, but i cant imagine how he could with such a heavy, wet diaper!

I use the diaper doublers, the grocery store brand (safeway) and then a huggies overnight. DD hasn't leaked through since. And she nurses before bed and once at night. The diaper doublers are pretty cheap and worth every penny if you consider the alternative of cleaning up pee soaked pjs and sleeping through the night.
