Diaper Rash on Boys

Diaper Rash on Boys

Anyone with boys....help.

I'm trying to leave town for a girls weekend with DD and very upset to begin with. Well...now I picked up Jake from daycare and his but is bleeding.....he is raw and he was not this way when he went to school today....so my guess...is he sat in some poo for awhile today!!!

Anyway - is it okay to put cream on the penis and sac too?  Anyone have a special cream they like?

I've been using the Aveeno.

He's raw everywhere...poor baby.

This sounds like yeast.  Has he been on antibiotics recently,  or had a stomach virus?  Sounds like yeast overgrowth - to get that bad in one day,  that's not just usual poo.

I always used over the counter antifungals that I bought in the women's gyno section of the grocery store.

Like magisil.

Best wishes.

I have had one nightmare after another this week at daycare.  No I didn't say anything about this....I had already gotten him home when I saw it.

On Monday his teacher was out and a 'substitute' had him....She didn't know he'd need to eat that day?!!!!

I got a call at 1:30p that said he was screaming for 2 hrs....So I went to get him, brought him to the Dr....then after all clear from Dr....I looked at his daily log and the idiot substitute never fed him....that's right...7am - 2p never fed him!!!

As you can guess...I'm looking for a new place.  The problem is, his regular teachers adore him and he them....and I them....but God help me, if they are out sick or something.

No antibiotics or virus this week.....I had pink eye and I was taking drops in my eyes...he wasn't really effected except he nursed a few times.

Okay - I'll try the cortaid...they had me put that on my DD when she had a yeast....and something else too.  I'll give it a shot.

What about that Schraeders paste?  I got it at the hospital once for DD...still have some?  Can that be used?

deanne,  in my vast experience with boys and diaper rash ;D,  when you get a rash like what you describe,  an anti-fungal is the only thing that works.  Cortaid is cortisone,  so it works some,  and I don't know what Schraders paste is,  but a fungicide is what will cure it in a matter of hours.

Everything else takes days.

And I meant to say "vagisil",  not "magisil" in my post,  sorry.

Thanks so much!!  I'm running to the drug store now.  I can't leave tomorrow morning knowing he's raw like this.

Thanks again!  Should I run it by my ped first?  I really don't have time...they don't get back to me very quickly....okay...taking your word for it!

Thanks again...I've always trusted you before.

I agree with rockrose, sounds like yeast. Over the counter yeast treatment cream is what my ped recommended. Be careful not to contaiminate the cream when using it. In my experience it cleared up almost as fast as it came on. Good luck. I recently left dd (10 months) for a girls weekend. I too was nervous, but she did great and I came back feeling refreshed. Hope you have fun!

I cant help but ARGH! to the daycare - so sorry you are having all these problems with them.  I cant believe he could get a rash that bad that quick.  He really must of been sitting in it.  Let his little butt air out tonight?  Or maybe not he is a boy he will pee everywhere.  Not sure what to do.  These women with boys will know.  Good Luck and just breathe slowly when talking about the daycare.

Oh,  so sorry to hear this Deanne. In the future if you are looking for a good cream for just a normal diaper rash or redness I love Butt Paste. Yes it is called Butt Paste. Avery has never really had diaper rash but she has had a red spot here and there and it clears it right up. Good luck and hope you have a good weekend!!  Oh and I also wanted to tell you that my nephew used to get like this and it was because he had a milk allergy. Just a thought, I am sure it is not the case.

Our doctor had us get Lotrimin AF (anti-fungal) for yeast rashes and it worked wonders.

My son's bottom was very raw too when he was teething. I tried everything in terms of regular and triple paste cream and it didn't help (it seems that it irritates him more.) One day, I thought to myself  that why don't I used the Epsom salt with the basin to help him with the rash ? I put Epsom salt in the small basin and let him sit in there for about few minutes (he loves it since he can splash the water around.) Surprisingly, the rash completely goes away after doing twice comparing to many failed attempts in the past with the diaper rash ointments. I'm not sure if it has to do with the Epsom salt or what. You can try and let me know if it helps. Not mentioning the rash does not come back much later but in a lesser degree.

Gosh epson salt seems harsh....yikes.  But maybe it doesn't burn like regular salt?

I know what it's like to get salt in a wound?  hmmm...

CantWait-
Nope, not in jail...I was at church...lol.  Really I was.  I went to see a Christian Rock Band in VA with my DD and my mom.  It was fun.

Everyone-
Jake's still not better though.  We did use the 'yeast' over the counter stuff for 24 hrs and it cleared up but now his butt hole and actual butt cheeks are all red.

I'm wondering if it is the teething...He's getting 4 more teeth....they are coming in 2-3-4 at a time.  I thought it was only an 'old wives' tale about rashes and teething.

No - didn't try Butt Paste yet....going to the store at lunch.
I feel so bad for him but he can't go without a diaper (to help dry it) - he pees all over the place everytime that diaper comes off....and just laughs!

Reilly had a really bad rash around 5 weeks old. I even posted about it looking for help. It was so bad, poor baby was starting to bleed. First I switched his wipes from pampers sensitive to the target sensitive brand. They are much softer and less harsh. Then each time I wiped him, I dried his butt before I applied a thick layer of A&D ointment on his butt and butthole. He was better within 24 hours. I had tried every other paste and oinment before, never worked. I swear by A&D now. I hope this helps and your ds gets better.
