Jacob is just about to turn one and ALL he will eat is baby jar food, cereal, puff snacks, yogurt, mashed potatoes and bread. He won't eat any table food. I have offered him so many things and he won't eat anything with texture other than bread or puff snacks. No pasta, no chicken, no cheese (has before but won't now), no eggs, no rice, no small soft veggies, no hamburger, no toddler foods, no ravioli, NOTHING. Is this normalNormal saline flush?? Shouldn't he want more than just baby food by now??
Any ideas or things I could try? Anybody else had a baby like this?
All you can really do is keep trying to feed bigger things. He will eventually start eating it. My nephew is almost 2, and still won't eat most foods. He still only likes eating baby food too! My 17 month old is the exact opposite. Up until a year old, she would barely touch baby food, and when I finally started giving her diced foods and such, she loved it! Have you tried the stage 3 foods? Those have bigger chunks, but are still in the pureed food too.
just keep offering it- eventually he'll try some.
at 12 months DD was still getting the hang of eating. Within a few months, she was eating everything. The teethingTeething Teething symptoms may have a lot to do with it too.
do you make your own baby foods? you can make them thinner and gradually try them a bit chunkier. maybe try combinations of things like mixing certain veggies and fruits together. i dont think you should worry that when he turns one its a sudden situation that he must eat all the foods you do. like tired said he will eventually like them. addison wants to eat what i am eating and while its usually the same thing, if i eat a chip she goes wild to try to get one haha. maybe he will do that , want to mimic you and your dh.
My DS refused baby food. I used a food mill to mill beans, peas and fruits before he was self feeding. Since about 7 1/2 mo's I have been giving him beans, banana's, chopped apples, carrots & peas. Now at 8 mo's I have been giving him those littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys weiner baby sticks, boars head ham, turkey, meatballs, chicken, actually, whatever dd is usually eating. Also he likes pasta. I started at 7 mo's or earlier w/cheerios soaked in water so that he would have texture but not choke. Good Luck!!
OMG, Tanker, Noah's the same way - he eats very little table foods at this point except for Cheerios and mashed up peas. His pincer grasp isn't really good but is coming along. I know he's only 9 months old but he really shows no sign of wanting less pureed foods.
The bad thing is that he still drinks out of the slow flow nipples - it takes 20 minutes for him to finish a bottle but when we try to use a faster flow, it just runs down his face and he gets mad. I'm probably doing something wrong.
Brayden won't eat anything!! I mean.. I took everyone's advice into consideration and tried it all and he just will not budge! He hasn't gained a pound in about 2 months but they keep assuring me he is doing absolutely perfect and looks healthy as anything so I shouldn't worry. So sorry that I don't have any advice for ya, just wanted you to know Jakey isn't the only picky eater.. hehe
And Jen- Brayden still drinks from a slow flow nipple too and when we even try to attempt a faster flow he lets it run down his chin and laughs about it.. unless he is tired and really hungry.. then well... he gets M A D too..... hehe Doctor also assures me it's fine.. says some babies just prefer working a little harder for their food. Gives me a little bit of hope that when he finally does start eating maybe he won't be a glutton....lol
Well... I started giving Maddie little 'tries' of everything since she was about 2 months!!! (gosh... that's probably bad.. isn't it?), she'd suc.k on stuff I'd be eating, like if I had an orange... i'd offer and she'd su.ck on it..., or a cookie, or cheese.....(mashed real well), so she really pretty much got used to 'stronger' tastes... but it was little by little.
Now she eats pretty much anything, as long as it's in chunks!!! lol... she is very picky with her jar food... she likes fruits, some veggies, and could eat some meat like chicken and beef.... but despises green beans and peas! lol or turkey!
Last night she ate half of a veggie mix jar and then started fussing. I went and toasted some wheat bread, put some cheese on top and melted it, and cut it in tiny pieces... then cut some ham and mixed it... (like a baby ham n' cheese)... SHE LOVED IT! she ate about a slice and a half of bread! (with the cheese and like 2 slices of ham!).
I don't really know if that would be too much of 'junk' food for babies... but she likes it, and I know it's good for her since it's cheese and ham? and wheat??.... maybe you can offer some yummy foods like that cut in tiny pieces to start him off? once he gets used to the texture, maybe he'll try something else??
Someone else probably said this, but mix in some really tiny pieces of something with his jarred baby food. Barely anything at first, and gradually increase.
I had to laugh--there was a Supernanny episode last week about a similar issue--this woman had 2 and a half year old twins who ate NOTHING but jarred baby food.
Mine wont eat anything either. He is 13 months. He is finally venturing onto different textures of breads. Before it was no sour dough, and only bread with a hard crust. I just keep giving him the baby food and just try things when I have them. Most the time Ethan will just turn his head before I even get it into his mouth, so I have just been leaving it in front of him so he can try on his own. Which only some of the time he will stick it in his mouth, then gag! It is very frustrating, but I figure he wont be like this forever. I have never heard of a 20 year old man eating baby food....but you never know, my ds may be the first one!!!!
Thanks for the advice everyone. vsent, I like the idea about the cheese on the bread. I will try that. I have tried the stage three food with bits in it. If the baby food had bits he will spit it out. If I put stuff on his tray, he will just pick it up and throw it on the floor. The dog loves it. Before he would at least try things, but lately he won't even try it. I have tried putting it in his mouth and he just spits it out.
I'm sure he will be okay, I just really wondered how typical it was or if I was going about it the wrong way. I got some good ideas.. I will try them.
and here my little tiny girl eats more food than you can imagine!! and she eats everything, not picky much at all!! she just needs to gain weight so she can turn around in her darn car seat. she yells STILL because she hates being backwards. grow addy grow!! lol
First table foods were pretty much whatever we ate, just diced up. Diced meats, shredded cheeses, little pieces of pasta, diced soft fruits and veggies, etc. Oh, and cereals, such as cheerios and she likes toast or pancakes sometimes too. The only things I don't feed her yet are the foods known to cause allergies. Like no fish or shellfish, that sort of thing.
