Does that make sense to you?

Does that make sense to you?

My best friend's EDD is 02/20/07.  I spoke to her yesterday and she told me that she's being induced tomorrow (02/16/07).  When I asked her what was the reason, she told me that the dr didn't see any point in waiting longer.  Does that make any sense to you or is she not telling me the whole story?  I thought that induction happens only for medical reasons and if the baby's overdue?

Umm..i think it depends where you come from and what area you leave in?
Im from the UK and went 42wks with all three of my babies. The first i went natural 1 day before they were going to induce me. The other two i was in enduced 40+ 10days, they ended up being medical.
I know my docs would not have enduced me for any other reasons.
But i had afew friends who were enduced afew days short of 40wks, simply becaurse they were feed up with carrying baby? said they needed to fix baby sitters???

I might try those excuses next time myself?? LoL.

I am in the UK too and was told that after 2 weeks it is dangerous for the baby because they can get distressed. They cannot force you to be induced but after 2 weeks they have to monitor tha baby. I was induced at 41 weeks and 3 days with membrane sweeping and I had 3 days of painful labour starting contractions 8mins apart and I did not sleep in 2 days, never again! Apparently I was not ready and the procedure speeded things up and my body had a lot of "work" to do. Never again!!

alot of doctors will induce now if you're close to your due date.  My due date is March 2 and I will most likely be induced on Feb. 22 or 23.  If teh baby is fully developed, and she is already dilating and/or effaced and just progressing, they will induce.  Its more for convenience (i.e. scheduling.. no "middle of the night" water breaks).

I was induced with my second daughter and will be induced with my son (this pregnancy).

you can actually be induced if you want to be all i had to do was complain to my doctor enough then he asked if i wanted to be induced because i think he was getting my point of complaining since i never did to him ....but my mom believes he already knew i was going to go into labor later on that night...

i'm in california with an HMO, i know my doc wont even discuss inducing until at least 40 wks and they probably wont do it till 42. average length of time for a first pregnancy is close to 42 weeks anyway...

I'm being induced on the 18th, and my due date is the 23rd.  We're mainly doing it so that I can schedule childcare, which is actually pretty important to me.  I'm sure my dr wouldn't be going ahead with the induction if I wasn't already 3 cm 75% effaced, she figures it should go very smoothly.

I was due on the 30th of April and was induced on the 25th.  It would have been the 24th, but he was busy that day.  :)  There was no medical reason behind it.  :)
