Dying Hair During Pregnancy

Hi i am currently 21wks 5days pregnant. Before i was pregnant i dyed my hair a lot. It has been so long since i last dyed my hair i have so much re growth! I have heard that you shouldnt dye you're hair in pregnancy because it can wreck you're hair.. Do you think its safe or should i wait??

it just depends, i waited untill the second trimester when pg with dd, and both times i died it, it came out fine, ive heard peoples hair turning weird colors, but i just "heard" that, it may be an old wives tale i dont know, im in my first trimester now and cant wait till i can die my hair again, its driving me nuts!

Ive done it twice since i learned i was pregnant... it has turned out great each time... my doc says to err on the safe side.. to do it in the 2nd and 3rd trimester...

My doctor told me that it's okay to dye your hair but only in "moderation", about every 2 months. But he said to surely stay away from bleaching. I've dyed my hair twice already and it has turned out like usual. :)

My doctor told my husband to take me to get my hair done. Its good for your mental health and its perfectly safe! I am going in the day before my baby shower. Can't wait!

Perfectly safe and important to your mental health.  It's important that you feel good about your appearance as you get bigger and bigger and bigger!!

My doc recommends foils or highlights over a full dye job.

Totally fine.  Most dyes are ammonia free now - the trick is to be in a well-ventilated room.  And, the doc suggested waiting until after the first trimester, b/c if anything had gone wrong, I would blame myself for having my hair dyed.  The key, though, to remember is that because of hormones, they dye may not take that well, and/or it may come out bizarre.  I had my hair dyed at 16 weeks (I'm now 26 wks), and it was a temporary dye (those are much better for your hair).  It looked great for a week, then it started to fade really really fast.  It never did that before, and I think it's because of the hormones (as my doc suggests).  It's a lot of money for 2 weeks, but whatever!  I felt great then!

I have been waiting to dye my hair too (I'm 17w 3d now).  It has been so frustrating seeing the inches of growth that I've had (the last time I dyed my hair I didn't know I was pregnant).  More so the gray lol!  I'm waiting a little longer, till a few days before I'm supposed to go back to work, so that I can hold off on dying it again.  I wish I could afford a salon, then I'd have my hair cut and styled at the same time or something.

I would watch out for dying,  if you have to do,  try a natural dye,  as i watched a show the other week that had studies where they've found chemicals from the hairdye's in some placenta's.
