Ear infections?

by becca_3456, Feb 12, 2009 07:13PM
OK, so I said I would not post another question but........... DD has her first ear infection, actually both ears are infected so what do I do? She has had NO symptoms of any kind, no fever, no tugging at her ears, and she has been sleeping fine at night. I brought her in today for her 18 month check only to find out that both ears are infected. Her ped. prescribed Omnicef for it. My question is Does she really need the antibiotic? Because I read that 80% of ear infections clear up on their own. Or do I give it to her anyway? She is her normal self and does not act like anything is wrong at all. She has only been sick one other time with RSV when she was 4 months and she has never had an antibiotic. I am just wondering if she really needs the antibiotic. Thanks.

My baby right now is on his 3rd round of antibiotics for ear infections.  He had one in his right ear and now in his left.  He also has the stomach flu & is also taking Omnicef (Sp?).   My dr explained that he treats ear infections (otitis media) w/anitibiotics but not fluid in the ear.  I hope this helps.

If the doc said she needed an antibiiotic, then she likely did need it.

If you leave it, it can be incredibly painful, and even rupture.
