Early Miscarriage

I've never posted a message like this before. But, I went to the er on July 29, and had a miscarriage. We tried again 3 weeks ago, and thought we got a positive test result back. But I started bleeding again last night. Just light brown spotting, and then this morning menstrual-like cramps and dark red blood, a little clotty. Does anyone think this could be another miscarriage, or did I just want that test to be positive? My husband is on his way home from a hunting trip, and this has been so hard for me.

First of all, let me say that I'm sorry for your loss. It could be a chemical pregnancy, which is an early m/c. But some women experience bleeding in early pregnancy, and everything turns out okay. I certainly hope this is the case for you. Call your dr. and see if he/she can see you tomorrow.

First, thank you so much. What is a chemical miscarriage? I've heard that before but I don't understand what the difference is?

Since it has only been 3 weeks since your miscarriage it is possible that is is leftover HGC hormone from that pregnancy. Im not sure how long it stays in your system, but I know it doesnt go away overnight.

That is true, but my miscarriage was on July 29, about 9 weeks ago?

I think what they mean by a chemical pg is that if you hadn't tested, you would've just thought you got your period. My understanding is that the hcg in your urine was high enough to turn the test positive, but it wasn't going to be a lasting pregnancy. I agree with the previous post that you should see your dr. asap. I'm sorry for your previous loss. I too had a m/c but tried again and now have a healthy 4 mo. old boy. It will happen for you. Best wishes.

i got a faint positive on a test 3 weeks after my miscarriage too and then started a period a couple of days later that is similar to what you describe. my dr. said the test was probably positive because of HCG still in my system from the miscarriage and that the period was normal. I'm sorry you have to go through this. I know it was the hardest thing I've ever faced. I can tell you looking back at it that it does get a whole lot better over time. My loss was eased when I had my son 6 weeks ago. We havd 2 children and desperately wanted a third so when we had him after 6 years of TTC it was a blessing. I can't help but feel sad for the baby I lost but if I hadn't lost that baby I would not have the one I have now because 3 was all we were having so I guess what I'm trying to say is that later on you will feel better about this. the pain never completely goes away but eventually you'll look back on it as something that probably happened for a reason. hang in there ok? you sound majorly sad and if you need someone to talk about I'll be here.

A chemical pregnancy is, like Debra said, a very early miscarriage. It's not uncommon for the egg & sperm to meet, and then for whatever reason (usually a genetic defect), the ovum dies and you get your period. If your dr. gave you a thorough exam after your m/c 9 weeks ago, then the hcg would not be from that pregnancy...unless your dr. missed something. Get in to see him/her ASAP. They can draw your blood levels and see what your hcg and progesterone look like. Good luck- I know this is an awfully tough time for you right now.

I am so sorry for your loss.  MC is a terrible dreadful thing.

I have 2 kids and a new hubby who has no bio kids so when I mc on July 22 it was devistating.  Started with brown blood and turned to red with clots 2 days later.  My doctor said that because I did not have a D&C we could try again after one cycle. LAst month we did  not conceive and this month I woke up with a yeast infection (probably caused by Clomid)and so I will probably not conceive again this month.  MC are dreadful and the horrible wait and the ttc afterwards just seems so much worse.  Baby dust to us all!
