Early sonogram//fluid in uterus

Hello All. I'm new to the forum, you all seem to have very valuable experience and advice.
I had a sonogram last week to check on pregnancy. I have a confirmed pregnancy with home test and by doctor however, we don't know exactly how far along I am. There was no visible heartbeat on sonogram however, there was what the tech said was the yolk sac. The doc called after the sonogram saying that there was a small amount of fluid in my uterus that they couldn't explain other than it may be from a cyst that could have ruptured. I have had no pain or bleeding however, the doctor said they can't completely confirm this pregnancy and they want me to wait a month to have another sonogram!!! I think the waiting of this month is going to really wear on me. Does anyone have any experience with the fluid in the uterus or what this may be eluding to?

Thanks!

You may be too early in the pregnancy to tell much. If they saw a yolk sac then you definately are pregnant. That does not say that a embryo will grow. That just says the egg has been fertilized. When the egg implants into the lining, whats called your "HCG" level rises. Between seeing the yolk and the HCG level, that verifies you are indeed pregnant. As for the extra "fluid", you may have had a cyst rupture. They do not always hurt or bleed. In another month, they will be able to see the embryo better and possibily hear a heartbeat. At this stage, the embryo is too small for them to make out much. (Roughly the size of the head of a pin), they cannot learn much about the pregnancy. I hope this helps. By the way, I am a nurse and a mother of 4. You may be worrying for nothing. Enjoy your pregnancy until there IS a time to worry. If you stress too much, it can cause harm to the embryo also, as well as affect YOUR health. You are no good to your child if YOU are sick.

If the doctor is being equivocal about the pregnancy in any way, you certainly have the right to ask for a pair of quantitative hCG tests, not just a "yes/no" urine test but blood tests that give you a numeric answer, run 48 hours apart.  If your hCG level is doubling in 48 to 72 hours, it is strongly suggestive that everything is fine in the pregnancy.  That beats waiting a month for another ultrasound.
