My doc told me if it's over 20 inches. Like the restaurant would know! Walleye is SO good though...I have been tempted to just have it! Right now there is some conflict on whether it's better to have it or avoid it.

Walleye aren't high in mercury are they? I know Tuna, Swordfish and a couple of others are. Isn't walleye a salmon? Are salmon bad?

The reason why they say to be careful with eating fish is because of mercury. Larger fish that eat smaller fish have alot more mercury, which if eaten frequently causes mercury bildup in your body, and birth defects in babies. If you have eaten it a few times there's no reason to worry, because it takes alot more to harm the baby. It's a good idea to just stay away from larger fish while you are pregnant. Salmon is the best fish you can eat while you are pregnant, the DHA helps with brain growth, tuna also has it. You should still only eat it 1-2 times a week, because all ocean fish have a little mercury.

Hi all!  I asked my RE yesterday about fish, bologna, hotdogs, etc.  Her first response...STOP READING THE INTERNET! LOL!  She said all of those foods are FINE, as long as it is in moderation.  She said not to eat fish everyday, no more than 3 times a weeks she said.  Same for hotdogs and bologna.  She said as long as I am not eating one of those things for EVERY meal, there is nothing to worry about.  So there ya have it, straight from the professional's mouth!  LOL!  She is one of the best RE's here in Texas too, so I am pretty confident in her advice.  Baby dust to you!

I just did a check on webmd. It's tuna, shark, king mackeral, sword fish & tile fish. Said canned tuna once in a while is ok.

The one I never thought of was caesar dressing. It has raw eggs. (so does cookie dough) It seems like the list of no-nos grows daily!

Actually, the common misconception with tuna is that all of it is high in mercury, when really it is just the larger tuna that have higher mercury. Coastal troll caught albacore have less mercury. Also if you eat canned tuna, you should eat the light one, because it is usually the smaller skipjack species.

No-walleye is not a salmon and it is a fish that eats other fish. But I am going to eat it once in a while, like one other poster said, if it's in moderation it's fine. Walleye is so good!

THe RN I met with said that most fish is good once in a while, just stay away from albacore tuna and try to get..oh shoot now I'm confused...there's a difference in farm-raised or whild, and I was thinking wild was better, but that doesn't make much sense to me...oh well, I'll ask again.sorry I'm not much help at all...either way, once in a while is fine:)
