Ebstein's anamoly

by ranjeev, Jul 30, 2004 12:00AM
Our one day old baby boy has been diagnosed with Ebstein's Syndrome.

The pre-natal detailed sonography report (3 days before delivery) read as follows:
-Situs solitus noted.
-Cardiomegaly noted.
-The right atrium shows gross dialatation.
-The septal leaf-let of the tricuspid valve is inserted more towards the apex than usual.
-Color doppler study shows gross holosystolic tricuspid regurgitation.
-Ventriculoarterial connections appear normal.
-Color doppler study shows normal flow of blood across semilunar valves.
-Main pulmonary artery peak systolic velocity of 112 cm/s noted.
-Ascending aorta peak systolic velocity of 158 cm/s noted
-Foetal heart rate of 133/min noted (regular).
-1:1 atrioventricular conduction sequence noted.
IMPRESSION - Ebstein's Anomaly - Tricuspid regurgitation.

post birth the diagnosis is confirmed and with ventilator support the baby is stable. investigation reveals leakage between the Pulmonary Artery-Right Ventricle, Right Ventricle-Right Atrium and between right atrium-left atrium.

initial treatment - drugs to keep the PDA open post birth.

The doctors recommend a closed heart surgery to attach a shunt between aorta and PA ASAP.

request your expert opinion on:

1. the immediate, intermidiate and future course of action
2. your experience with the chances of survival and the ability to lead a "normal" life here on
3. any other useful information

we are in India with limited expertise on the subject. request your immediate response to help us save a life harshly threatened by nature.

regards,

Ranjee

Unfortunately there are no doctors here.  You may want to try the Heart Forum.  I wish you the best with your baby.

Agree with platinum. Try the heart forum or a forum that gets answers from a medical proffesional. We cannot give an "expert" opinion as we are just a bunch of moms. Best of luck.

A friend of mine's baby had a similar situation, he had surgery and he is doing wonderfully.  I would suggest as the other ladies have.  I wish you and your little one the best!  Prayers are sent your way!  (-:
