Echogenic bowel?

Echogenic bowel?

I am 19 weeks and had an ultrasound yesterday.  I am having a little boy and everything looked great!  But then the dr came in and said that he has an echogenic bowel.  They said there was a 1% chance of downs, 4% chance of cf, 15-20% chance of infection, or it could just be that the he has swallowed some blood and it is showing up on the u/s.  I had an amnio yesterday and blood work done.  I will get the results back over the next 2 weeks.  I will also have another u/s on December 19th.
Does anyone have experience with this???

If you link to this there is a conversation about a similar situation only it took place about 2 years ago so don't think you'll get to many current responses if you post there.  Hope the info helps though!

The general consensus sounds like it's a fairly common u/s result and is usually nothing. Hopefully you get the same normal results she did!

Good luck to you!

If you had no other irregular results (i.e. soft markers) in that U/S scan (echogenic heart, brain, bone length abnormality) and/or in the previous blood tests or NT scan (11-12 weeks--did you have that?), I have heard that one irregular result is likely to not mean anything serious. I'm not a doctor though. If you had the amnio you will get conclusive answers though, at least as to ruling out chromosomal issues.  Best of luck...try not to worry. Isn't there a 3-day "early test result" that will give you some idea on the amnio (as opposed to waiting the full 2 wks to get the full results).

Thanks for the responses.  I did not have any blood work until friday and yest that was the only soft marker found.  I guess I am the most worried about cf or the infections.  I am hoping that it is nothing though!  Yes I will get the prelim downs results tomorrow and it will take up to 2 weeks to get all of the blood work results in about cf and the infecitons.

We just had our 18wk u/s follow up today and had what sounds like the exact same result. This was back in November - what was the outcome?
