Eczema

by nel06, Aug 18, 2006 12:00AM
My son is 21 months old, he has had a problem with eczema since he was about 2 or 3 months old.  Last winter was real bad.  My question is, does anyone know of a detergent for his clothes that is gentle enough?  I am 10 weeks pregnant and the detergent I use on his clothes is free and clear of any dyes or fragrances... but it leaves his clothes with a bad scent that makes me want to puke since my nose and stomach are so sensitive now.  I would like to find something with a little bit of a scent to it, I also don't use fabric softeners on his clothes for fear of him breaking out.  Any suggestions???

have you ever heard of melaleuca products?  They are all natural products not harmful if swallowed good for environment and dont have added scents and doesnt smell bad, I bought this for our son who has sensitive skin, and worked great, and it comes in a pumper bottle that premeasures you detergent I LOVE it!  It is sold on Ebay, just check it out, its pretty cheap too

I always heard that Dreft was the best laundry det. to use for baby clothes and blankets. If you've tried this, perhaps you should search for an "all natural" brand of detergents or other baby products specifically made for eczema at specialty stores or online...

Here are a few I found:

This is just a site that had info on eczema and how to treat it:

I have eczema and use all free and clear.  I like the way it smells.  I also use the same type of dryer sheets and it seems to help keep my outbreaks in check.  I know the sheets are gentler on the skin than liquid fabric softener.  My daughter doesn't have eczema, but I've been washing all of her clothes with our detergent and she hasn't had any reactions....it's definitely cheaper than any product geared specifically for babies.

Thanks everyone.  I will check those things out.  I just bought "All for babies" just like dreft only a different brand.  The last time I tried to change his detergent he broke out in hives all over... looked so painful, and it took days to go away.  Anyway, I guess I will just keep trying things until I find what will be best for us:)
