"Empty" uterus at 7 weeks, according to ultrasound.

I am 7 weeks pregnant and had my first prenatal exam and ultrasound yesterday. My urine test showed a positive hormone and they also took blood. They were not able to give me the blood results yet (a count), but my ultrasound showed nothing in my uterus. She said it appeared empty and also checked my falopian tubes for an ectopic pregnancy. She said she didn't see anything there either. I was having minor cramping and no bleeding, but tonight my cramping has worsened and I have started to bleed initially brownish discharge and later spotty red blood. Does this sound like a miscarriage is inevitable?

If you are certain of your dates, it sounds like something is not right. You would be able to see the embryo by now. I hope it is not an ectopic in your body cavity somewhere; it also could be (again if your dates are right) that you have already miscarried and the hCG in your system is just residual. I hope it's just your dates being off, though. You wouldn't see anything in your uterus if you were late in week 4 or really early in week 5.

Thanks. I'm about to go this morning to do another blood test. I guess we'll get some pretty clear information from that. As far as dates go, its possible I might be a few days off (for whatever reason) but I can't imagine being off by weeks...

They are so slow. I thought I'd find out more, but only found out that my hcg was 1490 on Tuesday. They sent my blood work to the lab and it should have doubled. They said they'd call later today or tomorrow. I hate this waiting game. I just want to know!
