Evan is so stuffed up, whats going on?

Evan 10 weeks now and for the past 2 weeks he has been so stuffy and it isnt getting any better. At first I thought he just had a little cold but I dont think thats the problem as it wont go away and he has no other symptoms. I have tried bringing him in the bathroom while I shower, running a humidifier, he sleeps on an incline... I suck out the boogers with a bulb syringe constantly and I get SO much out. The snot is just clear or white so thats the other reason I dont think he is sick. Can babies this young have allergies?  He has his check up in a couple days so I will ask about it then but what do you ladies think.

He is colicky but I dont think there is any connection....

Oh, it used to be just at night and he would be fine during the day but in the past couple days it hasn't gone away.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it or is even true, but my pediatrician told me not to use the booger-sucker bulb thing because it ultimately stimulates the snot production rather than reducing it.  You might run that by your own pediatrician, I don't know if that is something all doctors would say or not.  I only mention it because you said you are doing it constantly.

Anna was the same way for the first 2-3 months.  My pedi said that it's just "newborn conjestion."  It went away eventually.

I was just going to say the same thing as AnnieBrooke.  I have heard it is not a good idea to use those nose sucker things very often.  I've only used it on my baby once the other night.  She was so clogged up she couldn't nurse.  Since that one time, I just let her nose drain naturally.  Maybe stop doing that and see how it goes?

Thanks! I will try and stop but he is so stuffed up it sounds like he is having breathing issues and it definitely makes it hard for him to nurse. A lot of the time the stuff I get out isn't just runny thin boogers it's chunks so I dont know if it will drain out on its own. I will ask his ped about it today, my poor boy just seems so miserable :(

Have you tried using a humidifier?  That may help.

my 7 week old is the same way. He's been like that for like 2 weeks now. I got the humidifier, sleeps on an incline and I suck the boogies out constantly.
Grose - let me know what the ped says today.

you may want to try the saline drops.  They melt the chunks almost immediately and clears it all out pretty quickly.

Yup I do the humidifier. I forgot about those saline drops, I will go get some.
I will let you know Jen.

Yep, I used the saline drops and you can try running a hot shower and sit in the bathroom with the steam going.  That should fix the congestion for a little while.  I also heard about rubbing a little vicks on the chest.  I believe they have one for children.  I'm not sure of the age appropriateness for that though.

Just got back from the dr, she said it is normal newborn stuffiness and if he seems like the buggers are bugging him I should suck them out with the bulb  but other wise just to leave him alone.

Jezi- I do the shower thing and it does seem to help a little, thanks :)
