FOOD POISIONING???

by toyml99, Feb 07, 2007 12:00AM
MY 6 MONTH DD JUST HAD HER SHOTS TODAY AND SHE IS FEELING FINE.  I WAS MAKING A MEATLOAF IN THE KITCHEN AND SHE WAS IN HER WALKER.  I WAS PUTTING THE EGGS IN THE MEATLOAF AND I WAS HOLDING TO YOLKS OUT IN MY HAD AND CARRYING THE YOLKS TO THE TRASH AND SOME OF THE WHITES WERE STILL STRINGING ON MY HAND.  ABOUT FIVE OR TEN MINUTES LATER I GOT A PHONE CALL AND TURNED AROUND AND SEEN MY DD WITH HER MOUTH ON THE TRASH CAN!!!  YIKES WHAT IF THERE WERE SOME EGG WHITES THAT HAD TOUCHED THERE?  HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE IF SHE DID GET SALOMONELLA (SP?)  I AM SO WORRIED.  I AM GOING TO TAKE HER TO DAYCARE AND GO TO WORK.  HOW LONG UNTIL I AM IN THE CLEAR THAT SHE DIDN'T GET SICK?  ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRICIATED.  THANKS.

Hmmmmm.....well i would think the odds are very slim but keep an eye on her. food poisoning is almost immediate once digestion sets in. However....don't mistake a reaction to her shots for salmonella and get her to a doctor if her fever gets too bad or she gets colicy. I don't believe in vaccines and don't vaccinate my kids but I do know the warning signs. I'm sure she will be fine. Good luck and try to RELAX. I know....easy for me to say while I'm sitting way over here. Kids are resiliant!!!

From what I've heard food poisoning usually occurs within 6 hours.

You'll know food poisoning if she gets it... my husband had it once and he was uncontrollably vomiting and in severe pain.

I would keep a close eye on her.  If she develops a fever that is more than a low grade fever, or if she isnt keeping anything down, then Id get her checked.  The immunizations can have adverse affects of low grade fever, but you will definitely know the difference between adverse affects vs. food poisoning.

I wouldn't worry...NO OFFENSE, but you have to be a first time mom.  She'll be fine. Food poisoning typically takes 8-24 hours to set in.

The only way she would get food poisoning from this is if the eggs were contaminated, which there is always a chance, but probably not all that high. Think of how many times we all eat raw cookie and cake batter that has eggs in it.  I was paranoid too when my daughter was about that age b/c her grandma makes homemade ice cream and that has uncooked eggs.  My husband let her eat it and I was so worried, but she didn't get sick.

You should know within a day or 2 if she is sick, but I wouldn't worry.
