FYI - Benzoyl Peroxide during pregnancy

by mpde, Sep 14, 2006 12:00AM
Just as an FYI to anyone who may be interested - I talked to the Pregnancy Environmental Hotline, and they told me that acne products with benzoyl (sp?) peroxide, such as Proactiv are perfectly safe to use when you're pg.  Good news for me, as that's the only thing that keeps my face clear.

Yep it is safe. I posted last week about it to someone and let them know it is okay to use in pregnancy.

I am pregnant and I have acne on my face, chest and back. I found a cream over the counter called ZAPZYT cream which contains 10% benzoyl peroxide? Is it safe to use it every day only on the sensitive area?

10% is pretty high. If you're pregnant I would still play it safe.  You should try something like proactive that only has 2.5 % Benzoyl Peroxide.  I'm pregnant also and as with my first pregnancy I'm lucky enough to avoid morning sickness, but instead I get horrible acne all (including legs and stomach, but mostly where you said) over.  With my first I thought it was because I was 19, but I'm 27 now and my symptoms are the same.  As with the first time i was pregnant, Proactive was what I used to control the acne.  Though I'll be honest, it didn't go away completely until 1-2 months after I gave birth. But the Proactive seemed to tone it down.
