Failed Glucose test today ** OPEN FORUM

Hiya ladies !

I went and had the 1 hour Glucose test done this morning and I failed. My number was 156 and the nurse told me that anything over 140 requires the 3 hour test to be done. So it looks like I will be going to the hospital next week to have the 3 hour test done.... anyone have this done ?? I know I can not eat or drink after midnight. will I have to drink more of that liquid stuff than I had to with the 1 hr test or the same amount ?
What else can I expect ?

My 1 hour test came back just like your 156 and when I took the 3 hours test, I passed it no problem! As the girls on here will tell you, do not worry yet!

I failed the one hour and passed the 3 hour, you should be fine.  Yes, you do have to drink more of that nasty stuff but they allow me to drink water after that so you should be fine.

I think everyone fails the one hour one ......I know i did but i passed the three hour ones with flying colors....

Hi There...I too failed my I hr test  a week back--151 was my reading, but the cut off given to was 150. I was asked to go for a 3hr test.Got the result yesterday, got to show it to the Doc today.

They make you drink 100gm glucose here (in the 1hr it is 50 gm) before you drink it one blood sample, after one hr of drinking another sample and another two more samples in one hour intervel each, total 4 samples and each in one hr intervel.

My level is high by 12 in the third sample. I can not reason why, or how, Hopefully the doc will have an answer.

I actually failed mine this week also. I think my sugar was way too low though. She didn't have the results with her when she called me. She sent me a diet I have to adhear to for 3 days before I take my 3hr test. All Carbs....this is why I think it was low. Also, nothing but water after midnight the day of the test. Fun times....if I don't keep something in my stomach I get so sick. I have no idea how I am going to pull this off....

it's strange but almost everyone I know fails the one hour glucose test.  Nothing to worry about.  They made me drink that drink again (yuk, sorry) but I passed it and that's what counted.  They take your blood three or four times, I don't remember exactly.  I think it's once before you drink it, then one hour later, two, and three hours later.  It wasn't as bad as it might sound.  Good luck.

They make sure you eat enough carbs so your body gets used to it and doesn't freak out when you suddenly get the 100mg sugardrink. Your test must have been high. My dr. said that this carbdiet is mostly for healty veggie and dietsoda eating/drinking people who don't usually eat a lot of carbs (whereas I live on carbs fruit-bread-pasta-cereal...;-)
On the 3 hour you can fail once but not twice that's why a lot of people who fail the one hour pass the 3 hour (only have the 1h numbers too high).

good news here, doc says it is perfectly fine to have one elevated result.And they have a different cut off upper limit for preggo's.
