by wenders, Jul 10, 2004 12:00AM
Hi. Do you guys know of any fertility drug options that don't increase the chance of having multiples?
Thanks.

I'm currently taking clomid and my Dr said that it has chances of multiples but that is very rare.  I hope this helps.

clomid is about a 4% chance of multiples but there is a newer one on the market that is even lower.  sorry i can't remember the name of it.

I believe what Nanci is thinking of is "Femara". Or Lepro..something. But both are the same thing. Ones just the generic of the other. Femara is the SAME as clomid except is doesn't increase chances of multiples.

I am pretty sure that Clomid and Femara are not the same.  Femara is a different drug all together which is also used to treat breast cancer.  Both have about an 8% chance of multiples.  I have been on the them both and believe me, the s/e are completely different.  Clomid can take up to 8 weeks to metabolize and femara get out of your system within a coupld of days. I was switched from clomid to Femara because clomid made my lining very thin (5mm) and also cause too many side effects.  Again, these are two different medications.

http://www.ivf.com/clom.html.  Here is a great website explaining both clomid and Femara.

Thank you all so much! I had my first RE appointment a few weeks ago, and we're waiting for the barage of blood tests to come back to see if anything explains 2 early m/c's. For some reason she seems hesitant to start me on Clomid, seeming to prefer some other protocal which involves shots and then the progesterone, I believe. I hadn't heard of Femara before, so I'm going to read up on it now. For those who have tried it, are you happy with it?
Best wishes to all. Wendy

I know how overwhelming all the tests and results can be.  I have a notebook and record everything!  My advice, research, research, research! There is ALOT of good information on these boards but not all off it is accurate.  I can tell you for me, clomid was horrible but then you hear of women responding to it really well and getting pregnant.  One thing that helped me was taking a baby asprin while on it.  While on baby asprin my lining went from a 5mm to 8mm in a month. Femara just makes me a little tired but compared to clomid it was nothing.

i hope you are all ok, im on clomid at the moment as i have 1 blocked fallopian tube there need to boost the other although no joy yet, i wanted a drug that didnt course multiple pregnancies but after taking to my doctor i found out that all infertitly drugs can course multiple pregnancies although they are very slim but i already have 2 children an didnt really want twins until he said i might not have a chance at all then so i went on clomid the way im looking at it now is 2 bundles of joy is sure to be better that one if its ment to be it will be, take care now and i wish everyone the luck they deserve.
