Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Before i knew i was pregnant, i drank heavily one night at i guess i was maybe 4 weeks pregnant.  I've been feeling so bad about it.

I haven't touched alcohol since and i'm 29 weeks now.  Everything was normal at my last ultrasound.  Did anyone else drink before they knew they were pregnant and do you have to drink fairly frequently for a baby to be affected by FAS.  I'm worried that my one time drinking has damaged my son and i feel so guilty. :(

please know most all of us had more drinks than usual in the first few weeks while vacationing, weddings, holiday parties. you and your baby are totally fine! FAS is from constant drinking throughout pg, not one or two times early on. everything will be fine!!

I think your baby will be fine as long as you didn't continue to drink once you found out you were pregnant.

FAS is from drinking regularly or binge drinking during the pregnancy.  With my first daughter I drank till I found out when I was about 4 months pregnant or so.  With my second I drank during the holidays before I found out.  Both of my daughters are fine.  Hope that helps.

i agree... your baby won't be affected. most people drink before they find out they're pregnant... heck, that's how many people get pregnant :)  even the pregnancy books tell you not to worry about alcohol you consumed before finding out you were pregnant. as long as you stop when you find out, your baby will be OK.

My sister in law got completely drunk at about 2 months before she knew she was pregnant! Her daughter will be 7 in a week and is fine! Not to mention, she's in 1st grade and performing at a 4th grade level! :) As long as you aren't binge drinking frequently....you and the little one will be ok, I think! :)

Before I found out, I went to a number of birthday parties, had a few glasses of wine on each and as turns out I was 3 weeks pregnant.  DD turned out fine.  You're ok :)

Thank you so much everyone for your comments and stories they have really helped and eased my mind, i'm way too paranoid.  I haven't drank since that one time, but i'm definately starting to miss it.  I have such a craving for a glass of red wine, only 11 weeks to go :)  Thanks again.

My mom did the same thing when she was pregnant with me and felt guilty and worrisome ever since, but I am fine (at least I think!)  I do pick on her from time to time when I am forgetfull or something, but I had straight A's in school and am very very healthy.  So I wouldnt tell your child, you will hear about it the rest of your life:) lol... just kidding.
