Fetal Pole and Heartbeat

by Sabrina2008, Jun 25, 2008 07:17AM
Hey everyone..I've read many questions and answers on this site in the past and it's very reassuring to know that there are others out there with the same issues and some great advice..I'm currently new to this community and I have a concern of my own. I'm pregnant with my 3rd child and they're calculating me at 5 weeks 6 days (yesterday due to my first ultrasound)..I am considered 6 weeks today. They said I was producing the hcg hormone..I have all of the pregnancy symptoms..but the only thing they detected on the U/S was a gestational sac, yolk sac..and possible fetal pole..(which was unsure because she couldn't see it very well) But no fetal heartbeat was there..I'm very worried that this will end up in miscarriage..please help! Should I be concerned or just relax until next week when I have my second U/S?!

Hi, I’m EXACTLY in the same boat as you.  This is my first pregnancy.  I had a u/s this Wed., measured at 5 weeks 6 days and all they could see was the gestational sac, yolk sac and the fetal pole.  No heartbeat was detected.  My doctor wants me to remain positive and come back next week for another u/s.  She said the baby just might be too small to detect the heartbeat.  I should mention that this u/s was a bit of a miracle for me because my first u/s a week before showed a calcified yolk sac and no baby!!  I was basically told there was no hope. Either the doctors were terribly mistaken or a miracle did happen.  I don’t think anything anyone says can make you relax but try and be positive.  I am.  The best of luck to you!
