Fibroids and getting pregnant

by Sbleaves, Nov 10, 2008 02:53PM
I have been diagnosed with a uterine fibroid (the picture looks like it's at the base/bottom of my uterus and it seems to be growing within and possibly outside of my uterus.  I have surgery scheduled in two weeks to take the fibroid out - but am very concerned about the impacts it may have on my uterus.  My husband and I very much want to have children; we have no trouble getting pregnant; we've been pregnant three times in the past year, but have miscarried each time after about 6 - 8 weeks; as the embyo does not grow properly, presumably due to the fibroid and the implantation problem it is likely causing... so I'd like to get it removed; but want to pursue the least invasive procedure possible that will preserve my uterus.  I've heard about the problems that can occur after fibroid surgeries when the uterus needs to expand... but our obvious goal is to have a healthy pregnancy and preferably a natural, vaginal birth... any input, experiences, and/or advice would be VERY helpful!
Thank you!

Hi sweetheart, I couldn't help but write here. I had a massive fibroid about 2 years and a half ago... and lost my little angel at 12  weeks due to it... same thing happened, my baby didn't grow properly and died, and got reabsorbed by my body.
It was one of the saddest things... well, no... it was THE SADDEST thing I've ever had to endure, but I didn't know much at the time.
I did my research and thank to one of my best friends online (MILKYPAGE! where are you???) went to find one of the best RE's (reproductive endocrinologist) in America, who diagnosed me and treated me. I had surgery to remove it, but after being put on lupron for 3 months, when they went in... my fibroid had shrunk to nothing!
3 months after (due to the lupron still in my system) I got pregnant with my beautiful baby girl!!!!!! (look to the right hand side of your screen >>>>>>>>>>> that's her!!!) hehehe ;)
They just removed some endo, and sewed me back up!
My uterus grew as it should with my girl and she was full term with no complications!! I had an AMAZING pregnancy and now I have the love of my life in my arms... and SO WILL YOU! =)

Don't be scared, you are in the right path to be a mommy!
I will keep you in my prayers and if you have any questions just PM me ;)

Lots of hugs! everything will come out just fine!

Thank you SO much for your quick reply.  You made me shed tears of joy at work! :)  I just got the Lurpon shot about 2 weeks ago, and that is all they have me scheduled for (the one treatment) before my surgery in two weeks from now.  I'm SO happy to hear a success story.... you didn't even have any bleeding during your pregnancy due to your previous surgery?  And you were able to have your (gorgeous!) baby girl vaginally?
Anyway, thank you, thank you for taking the time to reach out; I reeeaaly needed to hear your words of encouragement this AM.  I am 34 and so ready to have a child with the love of my life.

Thankfully yours,
Sbleaves

I worked 5 years in OB-GYN.  Many women are able to get pregnant and carry a baby to full term with uterine fibroids but it all depends on their location. In your situation surgery is definitley the right call. Once it is removed you should have no problem carrying a baby to term.

Good Luck to you!!

Girl, I just replied to your PM... thank you!!! your words made me almost cry here! ;)
Like I said, don't be afraid. There 's no bigger pain than infertility and loss... we've been there,... and we also endured it and succeeded. You WILL too!! =)
Like Quinns momma said, there are many women that can carry to full term with those darn things... but in our case, this was the best option... and women have no problem after this getting pregnant and carrying to full term! =)
Just hang in there and keep me posted!
