Finally Gave In and Changed My Mind

by Cheyenne_08, Aug 25, 2007 01:02AM
I had convinced myself to give up breast feeding because of ashtyn's lack of interest and my milk supply. However, it lasted about 5 hours and I decided to try breast feeding him again. He did rather well and so I am pumping right now to pump out the milk that has stored up....OMG it was hurting so bad! So, Ashtyn is getting mommy moo for at least a little longer. I am having a lactation consultant come out and watch him breast feed and see what we can do to make this better. Thanks for all the support and advice ladies!

Outstanding! I have a feeling the lactation consultant will offer lots of helpful advice. Breastfeeding is just as much about approach and attitude as it is about the biological aspect of it. A positive outlook can make a world of difference as well.

C'mon Ashtyn, we're pulling for you!!

let us know how it goes!!
and i'll tell you what several of my friends have told me... if you decide to give up, don't feel guilty, or let anyone make you feel guilty. haha... easier said than done, right?? i felt guilty just for considering giving up. i think we're the harshest judges of ourselves.
by the way... i also sit here on line at 2:50 am as well, pumping. gives me lots of internet time.

Yeah, I use my laptop to help me pass the time!!! It gets really boring sitting here! How do you find time to pump with a little one? It is crazy for me trying to do it, and Ashtyn is 2 months old. I cant ever seem to get away from him.

That is great news, I really hope the lactation consultant can help you some more this time. Best wishes. Jo

I feel for you.  I am breastfeeding Ayden too.  By the time I change him, feed him and pump its time to start all over.  He is 2 weeks and I think he's having a growth spurt cause he wants to eat every hour.
My mom just bought me and electric pump so even if I wanted to go to the bottle I would feel to guilty.  Don't get me wrong, I think breastfeeding is the best thing that we can do for our little ones but the bottle would be so much easier so dh can join in.  He's getting his sleep  :(
I think the lactation consultant is a great idea!!  If you could come back and share that would be good.  I want to bf for at least 6 months and I'm nervous my supply will run out.
good luck and I'm so glad to hear Ashtyn is doing so great!

My dh has never had to battle the midnight feedings, heck he has never fed my babies during their first year as I was strictly breast. BUT he has more than made up for that with all the other duties he takes on. My husband never felt he missed out not feeding our babies, dad's seem to really enjoy the playing aspecta lot more ; )

usually, i pray she falls asleep while i pump. i'll put her in my lap, or on a pillow next to me. yesterday i tried again to keep us on the same schedule so we could practice nursing, so i put on that ridiculous looking bra that holds the breast shields in place while you pump so your hands are free, and i tried feeding her at the same time. it's a huge hassel, and she's always kicking my boobs when i do that. plus, it's hard to burp her. do you have any tricks that work???

by the way, i tried nursing again this am, and she did ok for like 10 minutes. i don't think she got much, but when i pulled her away we were both covered in milk, so at least she's slowly starting to get it. i was lucky though- she was in a good mood, not starving, and the milk was practically pouring out of my boobs because i was overdue to pump.

Way to go Cheyenne! Just try to stay relaxed and give yourself major kudos for how hard you tried! I hear ya...I never get away from my bub, either. He is almost always attached to the boobie! Kind of makes it hard to get much done. I'm contemplating going OUT for lunch with one of my daughters. Three of them are gone today with friends and Ben is working. Do I dare venture out? I always try to make sure he's fed and full then zoom around right away to get out of the house so we have HOPEFULLY 2 hours before having to nurse again. I wondered in the beginning why a few of my girlfriends and even their husbands called me super mom when I said I was exclusively breastfeeding. Most of my friends did breastfeed for the first few weeks or months, but not exclusively. They did give some formula too. Now I know why they call me super mom! It's a huge commitment! I commend anyone who sticks with it especially in abnormal circumstances!

I was considering whether or not breastfeeding is right for me and my dd, too.  However, the last two days have been much better.  She has actually given me a little break and she seems to be enjoying it more now.  The first week, Anna was getting really frustrated when I tried to get her to latch on.  I would feel myself tensing up and it just wasn't working very well for us.  Also, I have a very active 3 and a half year old ds at home who also needs some attention.  I have a better attitude about things now and I think it will work for us.  I am also doing a lot of pumping and sometimes offer a bottle.  I know I should have waited a liittle longer to introduce the bottle, but Anne doesn't seem to have any nipple confusion.  I am going back to work at 9 weeks and want to have a large amount of milk stored for daycare.  The immunity benefits are the main reason I am breastfeeding.  Good luck to everyone.
