First Experience with Pregnancy Back Pain!

First Experience with Pregnancy Back Pain!

I was in the middle of school yesterday and had a horrible sensation throughout my back! I was in so much pain i wanted to cry.  It felt like spasms or something. and nothing i could do helped. ill be 20 weeks tomorrow and this is the first real back pain. someone said "welcome to pregnancy" "pains are just going to get worse."

i went out and bought a brace thing for support and back pains. does this help? is their anything else i should be doing?

i thought the babys only 6something inches big. so why was my back killing me?

The baby may be small, but your uterus is growing daily.  I will be 20w next week and my back is killing me and has been for a few weeks now but I have twins.  The only thing that seems to help me is to have my hubby rub it while I lay on the bed.  Doesn't help much for when you're at school though, sorry.  A brace might work, but not sure - never tried it.

i dont mean to laugh but kim like you quoted, welcome to pg.  yes it will be full of pains and aches, all with good reason.  the only thing i can suggest is try to accept these things, they are what goes along with bringing a child into this world, and pain or no pain its worth every minute.  besides, wait until labor lol.

I had extreme back pain for my whole pregnancy.  I was not able to get out of bed.  I never experienced this pain with my first two, it was a COMPLETELY different pain.  Someone mentioned to me Pelvic Girdle Pain.  If you GOOGLE it, you will see some symptoms, it was MOST of my pain, but I was fortunate enough to suffer from Sciatica as well.    I wore a Pelvic Belt...it is suppose to SUPPORT your belly, it goes around your HIPs and the belt part supports your belly.  I did get some relief from mine.  I also found Accupunture to work well, if you try it though, MAKE sure you tell them you are pregnant...there are certain pressure points they can not use if you are pregnant.
Hope your pain goes away real soon!  Back pain is NEVER any fun, and DEFINITLY NOT while you  are pregant and unable to do much for it!

I had those with my first and with this one-  my doctor told me during my first pregnancy that they were contractions, braxon hicks, I guess...  I have them with this one too, if I get worked up about something or if I climb a lot of stairs...  they suck,  but just remember it is only temporary!  :)  hang in there!

My husband always gives me back rubs, they help quite a bit.  I am only 10wks pregnant, but my back has been hurting since 6wks.  Have someone give you a nice back rub, or take a warm (not hot) bath.  Take care.

When I was pregnant I had pain that was on my back but on each side.  I only made it to 12 weeks but I had it before I even got morning sickness and that was at about 6 weeks, so around 5 weeks!  Even at that point that pain was sometimes really bad!  I wish you luck, hang in there!

I hate to say it, but it will get worse as time goes by.  You are still pretty early, but as your body changes it will become more often and get stronger.  I worked full time on my feet all day and chased after a 3 yr old before and after work.  At 20 weeks I was still puking several times a day, and shortly after that I got varicose veins along my episiotomy scar.  I was told a belly brace might help, but I couldn't stand having anything tight on my belly either.  I also had back labor twice, and that was way more intense.  Take some Tylenol and try to relax at the end of the day.  It will get better, there are good days and bad ones, they will get rougher at the end though.  If you are getting shooting pains in your back, like a pattern, then you should let your Dr. know.  I hope you feel better, nobody tells you how many weird aches and pains come with pregnancy.

thats pretty much exactly what happened. i was standing for awhile, then sat down and thats when the pain hit me like a ton of bricks.

i was told you back can really hurt but hurting and horrible pain youve never felt before are two different things.! yikes. and the sad part is you think my mom would be able to help me concidering she had to go thru pregnancy with me. but no. she says she didnt really have back pain she said she guesses she had an easy pregnancy. lucky her. i did decied to shift and pinched a nerve for her. she says she was doubled over in pain. so im not lookin forward to that at all either.

Could be you had a pinched nerve too.  They really do hurt.  I know my backaches in pregnancy were nothing like a sore back not pregnant.  Mine were a horrible pain. I even had to stand during my lunch break, because if I sat down then getting back up again would be even worse and the pain was almost unbearable.  Tylenol couldn't even touch it.  That's when my Dr. suggested a belly brace since I was all tunmmy and carried straight out front and really low.  She also told me to take it a little easy and rest more.  The pain does bring tears to your eyes, but it's still worth it.  I didn't have nearly the pain the first time around as I did the second time.  Different pregnancies, different babies I guess.  Even though I had a baby before I was really surprised at how much pain there was the second time.  My Dr. told me that since my muscles were already stretched out, there was not as much support, and I carried both boys out front, so it was all on my back.  I also had 2 big babies.  I hope it gets better, mention it to your Dr., but sounds like normal pregnancy pains.  Hang in htere, you'ew halfway there!
