First Trimester and Working Hard

First Trimester and Working Hard

I'm working two jobs, one is easy but requires travel on the bus to different schools and involves teaching alot of children sports and/or chess and/or doing arts and crafts, the second one is Waitressing.  They have made me so needed that i cant even take a day off and have been working every weekend from 4pm until 12am-3am.  This also involves so many stairs just to get food orders and bread and butter, and I'm in my first trimester which leaves me tired, anxious, nauseous, and today I just feel very weak.   I just also caught a sore throat and my ears are infected, which makes me feel worse.  Is there anything I can take that wont harm the baby for my cold and tiredness?  I cant even sleep a full night without tossing and turning.  It feels like this will never end, plus even with all this activity and eating healthy I'm still gaining weight? any advice?

My doc office gave me a list of safe over the counter meds way back at my first appointment. for colds you can take Sudafed, Actifed, Tylenol Cold, Benadryl Allergy Cold, Sudafed PE.  The tiredness is just one of the joys of being preggo, nothing you can do about that.  Im 26 weeks and after work i am just drained and dead tired.  Hope you feel better

Thanks! I was really drained before work, I found after I eat I get super tired, plus the fact that I cannot get over 4 hours sleep without waking wide awake and not being able to go back to sleep.  I just walk around with heavy eyelids lately, but as soon as I get to work, it's okay for that moment, then when I come back, like you descibed, I'm dead tired.  I'll try one of those cold meds you descibed, I hope it helps at work. Thanks

I just wanted to address the weight gain.  There is nothing you can do about that - your bodies metabolism changes during pregnancy which is something you have no control over and is something that happens for a good reason.

I put on close to 40 Ibs (lost 20 of these within the first 2 weeks after delivery) and it didnt matter what I ate or what I did.  A lot of the weight you will put on will related directly to baby but its likely you will put on additional weight too (since your body wants to make sure you are well nourished and have adequate fat stores for breastfeeding, for example).

Also, extreme tiredness is very common during the first trimester due to your body adjusting to HCG and gets better for  most people once they hit the 2nd trimester.  Of course, at the moment your busy schedule and trouble sleeping are exasperating the situation.  Its important you take care of yourself while pregnant and dont overdo it.  You may need to rethink things (work situation) if they continue the way they are.
