Flintstone vitamins in place of perscribed prenatals?

Flintstone vitamins in place of perscribed prenatals?

I am 6 weeks and started having horrible nausea a few days ago. I've been taking the prenatal vitamins that my dr perscribed and they are not helping my nausea! I took half of one last night and feel much less nauseas today. Someone once suggested taking 2 Flintstone vitamins in place of perscribed prenatals in order to reduce nausea. Has anyone here done this? I know 2 Flintstones would have less folic acid than 1 perscribed prenatal, but it would add up to be approx 80% of the folic dose.

Any thoughts?

My suggestion is to call your doc... The first trimester is really important when it comes to vitamens. God bless and good luck

My nurse said you could take flinstones instead if you need to.  There is also a newer vitamin out called premesis which has the folic acid and b vitamins.  It is if you can't stomach the prenatals and it has the essential folic acid and b-vitamins that are supposed to help the nausea.  I didn't take ANY vitamins the first trimester with my 4 children and they turned out fine.  I was way too sick.  With this one, I have just been taking my women's vitamin that I was taking before I got pregnant.  HTH.

i've heard you can also try taking the vitamins at night, as you are going to bed.  that way the effects are less conscious - less sickness.  That helped with my first pregnancy.  The subsequent two pregnancies, I've been told by my ob-gyn to take two flintstones w/ iron - i'm allergic to raw fruit and vegetables, so it gives me the vitamins I need for baby and myself, that I'm lacking otherwise.  Good luck all!!!

I actually was in the same position as you were. my obgyn told me to do the flinstones.

They made me just as sick as the regular prenatals. I tried 4 different prenatal vitamins. All of the vitamins made me sick. SO- they put me on Bifera, which is an iron supplement, and said to take folic acid. I did so, and they didn't make me any more nauseas than i already was at 8wks pregnant.

good luck girlie! i know, it *****!
