Follow-up to 5/20 spotting

by Bevin, May 22, 2003 12:00AM
Just spoke with my doctor.  My Hcg is 6,000 and my progesterone is 3.3. My progesterone is low (should be at least 15) but those levels fluctuate all throughout the day.  My doctor still does not think I need to take add'l progesterone.  My father, however, does and since he is not only and OBGYN but also a Reproductive Endocrinologist I am going to follow his advice.  Since I had spotting that one day and my level is low, it is a worthwhile course of action.  I will go in for my normal examination in 5 wks and hopefully all will go well.  Any prayers and wishes are welcome.

hthr & msklar:  thanks for your feedback and well wishes!

Thanks Geneva.  I'm actually laying in bed now with my first suppository of 50mg of progesterone.  Thank God my father is a reproductive specialist because I now believe my OBGYN here is an idiot. When my dad found out my level was only 3.3 at almost 6 wks gestation, he flipped!  His exact word were "your corpus luteum is sick".  He said my level should be in the 20's and it was no wonder that I spotted.  My idiot doctor actually told me that progesterone levels fluctuate all thru the day (they don't) and saw no need to do anything.  Most OBGYN's don't know enough about hormones and take the "let nature take it's course" approach.  When it comes to having a low level of progesterone, nature will never be able to take it's course if my corpus luteum can't do it's job.

Thanks for giving me feedback. It's good to hear from others who've been in this situation.  I'll let you know how things go.

Hello you two, Bevin I have learned a few things watching your posts, thank you so much. I am really glad that your dad caught that when he did, I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy and healthy happy bundle of joy.

Geneva I will be waiting for your post tomorrow so as soon as you get back with results please post and let us know. All these pg's is so exciting. I want it badly but get really excited when others get pg.

I am going shopping tomorrow for some books I heard were great,Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn By Penny Simkin, Janet Whalley and Ann Keppler
Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth By Sheila Kitzinger.

If I can't be pg yet I am gonna get caught up some reading.

I wish you both great pg's

Bevin,

I personnaly get the 100mg shot daily (after an IVF) it's maybe different than normal  ask your dad. I did Crinone Gel 2 years ago was not staying in me !!! therefore always to low  did not make it! maybe suppo. are better than Gel I don't know, shot at least you know it stays in your body for good. I am at the very beginning and my Prog. lev. is 36. Lucky you to have a dad in the med. field. Trust him and change OBGYN!
