Formula question...please help!!!

Formula question...please help!!!

Oh my poor Jesse!!! He is almost 2 months old and had to have blood drawn the other day. His bilirubin count is up and I have to go today to have more blood drawn to check his liver function. And then again on monday to test his bilirubin again!! Poor baby!! =( We don't know what's going on, but he is yellow again. He was early on, and it went away, but now it's back.
So for the weekend (48 hours) I have to stop BF'ing him and give him formula. (my worst nightmare, but this is actually for a good reason!) If his jaundice is caused by BF'ing, then it's okay, but if it's not, then he needs further testing to find the cause. I pray it's just from nursing!!!
He has no other symptoms other than greenish bowels which he has had since he was 2 weeks old. So I don't know if it's normal or not, but he seems pretty content.
Okay, so on to my question....I no nothing about formula and I am waiting on my doc to call back and recommend something, but in the mean time, what is the best formula that is easy on the stomach?? I don't care about cost, I just want the best for him for these 48 hours. Any help is greatly appreciated! I will be pumping like a mad woman this weekend to keep my supply going strong. It was just in the last couple of days that it got boosted and is coming in better than ever, so I want to make sure it stays that way. But those moms who know a thing or two about formula, please help me out. When I say I know nothing, I don't even know brands!!! haha. Thanks for the help. =)

Formula choices are endless.  It will come down to what his tummy will tolerate easily.

In our hospital, we use one of three:  Enfamil, Similac, or Good Start.   These are probably the top 3, easily commercially available and probably the least costly.  We are seeing babies tolerate Good Start very well, in particular, but any of the 3 are fine to try at first.

Do not start with a soy formula unless specifically directed to do so by your doctor.

Good luck!  Let us know what is going on w Jesse.  I know you must be very worried.

My first did best on good start she first transitioned to formula.

how scary- i hope everything is ok. glad you took him to get checked out! why do they want you to do formula instead of feeding expressed breast milk? just curious.

They may be trying to rule out breastmilk jaundice.

Jaundice in an otherwise healthy infant can be caused by this.  There are factors in the breast milk, which block certain proteins in the liver that break down bilirubin.

If the bilirubin is not at an unsafe level, more frequent breastfeeding can actually help the problem by increasing the baby's hydration.

Some doctors will temporarily discontinue breastfeeding for 48 hours to see if there is an improvement.   It is seldom necessary to completely stop breastfeeding permanently from this.

Thank you! I just remembered I had received two free cans from enfamil about 2 weeks ago. I just found them still sealed in the box they were shipped in as well. The doc said as long as it has iron, then it's fine. So hopefully I will have enough to get through until monday morning. I hope he does okay with it.

I think you summed it up Peek. They want to rule out breastmilk jaundice. Hopefully he will just clear up over the weekend, that would be great. I also did a full day of pumping and bottle feeding and it didn't make a difference. =/ I'm thinking it may be the breastmilk for some reason, but I still don't understand it fully.I wonder if there is something I could add to my diet to help?? Should I be taking in more iron maybe?
We'll see how tonight goes. It's nice that I don't have to go out and buy it. Thank you Enfamil. (still not happy about having to give it to him, but maybe he will clear up!)
