Gah! Poop/Gas question...

Gah! Poop/Gas question...

Okay... I'm apparently doing something that is causing a constant gas/constipation issue with Nadezdha... I think it might be the 2 Monster I'm drinking a day when I work...

Anyway, I need to know what other people might have experienced caused these kinds of reactions in their breastfed babies.  It is making me cry when I can't do anything for her... and worse knowing I caused it.

Sometimes, there just is no reason why.

She went from being a happy content baby to having gas all the time since Saturday... There has to be a reason... right?

I haven't been on her for awhile.  My new bundle of joy keeps me so busy.  He wants held 24/7.  Anyway, I know our babies are 1 day apart in age.  I breast feed only and my son can let stinkers as loud as his Daddy.  His poo is still yellow and runny.  He would dirty his diaper 3-6 times daily until just about 2 weeks ago.  Now he may go a day without nothing and then just poo once.  Sorry, it TMI.  I stay away from broccolli, cauliflower, cabbage and onions in excess.  Other than that, I eat.  I have had days of very bland diet and he still lets stinkers and has gas pains just like he does when I don't.  So I agree with Peek.  It seems like they just get gas.

Of all my kids, CJ is the only one who actually has very loud and stinky toots from virtually day 1. My other two needed gas drops to help them along, CJ rarely, if ever, has had to use them. Even now I joke that CJ's ability to clear a room is enough of a paternity test for everyone : )

If you are nursing you should not be drinking energy drinks!!! There are herbs in there she should not be having. I am dying to try the Monster Java, but will wait until I wean. That could very easily be the culprit. Cut them out and see what happens.

the sudden change can be due to the fact that baby's digestive systems mature and change. dd's digestion changed overnight. dd used to poop 10-12 times/day. we were working with a LC at the time. she was also a nurse who was very knowledgable about babies in general. she kept telling me dd's digestive system was going to mature and soon we'd see a change in bm frequency. she figured it would happen around 2 months. didn't happen til 3 months (but it was 2 months corrected gestational age). she went from 12 poops to 5 overnight. then after 2 weeks, she stopped pooping. didn't poop for a week. since then she goes every other day or so. weird too, because i wonder where all the food goes. anywaysthe point of my whole rambling post about poo is that the sudden change can be due to her digestion changing.

Also, many energy drinks are full of caffiene...not too good on baby.

Immortal, I wouldn't drink the Monsters. Definitely not something that baby should be getting through breast milk. I do drink my cup or two of coffee per day though...shame on me. I miss my energy drinks though. I loved Rockstar before I became prego. I drank one about 2 weeks ago because I craved it so bad. Then I felt guilty as heck! I won't be doing that again!

I will say though, that Brody has some pretty BAD gas and as far as I know, I don't eat anything that could be causing it, besides an apple a day. I love apples and on kellymom.com it says those can cause gas.

Alright, well after 48 hours of no BM (then another sticky/sludgey yellow one), I took Nadezdha to the doctors office.  She said:

1.)  That it wasn't the Monster and while the Monster drinks aren't the best for me, therefore they aren't the best for the baby, it isn't a huge deal and to perhaps cut back to one a day if I need it (I ONLY drink it on the days I work, I need to keep up energy).
2.)  Nadezdha is learning how to control her body and that includes farting and pooing, so sometimes she is going to get fussy about it.  Also that her digestive system is changing and that with a breastfed baby it isn't unusual to not have a BM for a week (then as long as it is soft everything is alright).
3.)  She thinks that Nadezdha is teething and also has reflux (which is why she spits up so much and she fusses a lot).  So she suggested Tylenol and Zantec (?)

She thinks there isn't anything else that could be seriously wrong with her (something about a muscle or valve in the stomach thickening), and she thinks there will be a change with the Zantec.

Oh, she's also 12 weeks, 2 days... and 11 lbs 5.5oz... up 5lbs from her birth weight.  She's also 22 inches long.
