Gallbladder and pregnancy/ miscarriage

Gallbladder and pregnancy/ miscarriage

I have just been diagnosed with a gallbladder polyp (tiny, most probably non-malignant but might have to take gallbladder). My questions are: One--I had 2 m/c (feb, apr 2006) and read progesterone of pregnancy can kick up gallbladder problems. Has anyone else had gallbladder issues while pregnant or after miscarrying.  Two--I am of course now wondering if this could have caused the m/c (around 6-8 wks both).  Three--any reports on life without a gallbladder? I don't know how long they will make me wait to TTC either.  Just one more thing I dont need!

I con't really answer all your questions except that I had my gallbladder out when I was 18. I had gallstones. I am now 23. I had chronic diareeha for a while, but is much better now. Sometimes when I have a BM, I can tell there is lots of bile in it. I don't know anything about the pregnancy stuff since I was only 18, and didn't get pregnant until 4 years later. I hope someone can give you more advice! Good Luck!

I have been dealing with gallbladder issues (what i suspect are anyway based on all my symptoms) for just over a year. I am currently pregnant and will be 18 weeks tomorrow. I do know that it ios not uncommon for docs to do gallbladder removal surgery if warranted while a woman is in her second trimester. I remember another patient at my OB's office mentioning she was having hers removed when she was 20 weeks.

Now, since mine is causing too many issues now, nothing unbearable anyway, I have opted to ride it out. But, my dh's aunt and my grandfather have both had theirs out, Judy more recently and it took some major dietary changes for her. She has never had the best diet to begin with, but the after effects with her were compounded by her other GI issues. As the previous poster mentioned, loose stools is a very common issue after gall bladder removal. Judy had to cut out nearly all fat from her diet to avoid serious bouts of loose stools.

These are all questions better asked of your doctor. If you know that you need surgery, I would put off getting pregnant until you have recovered. Pregnancy is one of the worst times to go fat free as it is vital for baby's development. And you certainly don't want to have bowel issues along with all the other fun stuff pregnancy entails.

I also wanted to add that it doesn't seem likely that the gall bladder issues caused the losses, most often they are due to bad pairing of egg and sperm/chromosonal issues. Nothing you did, just a nasty little thing nature likes to throw at us.

Luteal Phase Defect can cause recurrent early mc.
Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome can also cause recurrent mc. Both are treatable for almost everyone.
It seems unlikely that your gallbladder could be the cause. I would get a good evaluation for recurrent mc if I were you so you don't have to be disapointed again.

During my first pregnancy I got gallstones around 7 months.  It was a terrible pain that I just assumed was indigestion.  After finally having 3 attacks I went to Labor and Delivery where they did an ultrasound and discovered it.  The doctor was unable to do anything at that time due to my pregnancy.  I had attacks nearly every night the last month.  Four weeks after my daughter was born I had my gallbladder removed.  No big deal.  She is now seven years old and I don't think there was ever a problem with conception or carring her full term.  Hope this helps.  Good luck and lots of baby dust.

one of my girlfriends had her gallbladder out a month before she got pg.
my dh has had his removed laproscopically and he was down for about a week.  he had diareah problems for about a year afterwards..still does from time to time.  but he would take that over the pain anyday.

I was having some weird(but very uncomfortable) pains beginning in the middle of my first pregnancy.  An ultrasound was done, and the neck of my gallbladder was enlarged.  The doctor wanted to wait until I had the baby before pursuing any additional tests or procedures. However, when the baby was born, the pain went away and has not been back.  I am now almost 14 weeks pregnant, and wonder if the pains will start again.  I've never heard of gall bladder problems causing m/c...but I've never looked into it either.  I hope everything turns out well.

Its not safe to have your gallbladder removal while pregnant because they will make you sleep while doing the surgery and it will affect the fetus to grow and it will cause on miscarriage.  I got this experience and I'am so mad at the doctor who did the surgery who couldnt tell me that i was pregnant because they want the money on surgery.
I was 3 weeks pregnant when i got my gallbladder removed on 05/13/2010.  The doctor knows how it will affect the fetus by putting all that anesthesia in your body to make you sleep but they didnt care because they just want to make money.  I just got miscarriage recently and  i was 7 weeks pregnant.  Its too hard losing your child than having that surgery done because some doctor they recommend to do surgery after birth not while your still pregnant and fetus is still developing.  If i just known that i was pregnant that time i wouldnt take the chance to get surgery because it can wait not losing your baby.
