Does he have an actual gastro problem, or did they say it was Gastritis. I myself have had it, and been treated for it for a few months. Mine is much better now than it was. It's not terrible, but it is. (sorry if that makes no sense) How much blood was he vomiting up? And also, was the coughing severe or just every now and then. Depending on the case, he could have just made his throat very raw, which resulted in bleeding. This would also not be helped by the vomiting of stomach acid.

However, he could also be coughing because of rising acid in his stomach. It makes the throat irritable, and then in turn you can vomit blood if it's or something that is similar to coffee. It's black with what looks like grounds in it. (This is what mine was) Mine was also frothy and yellowy/green at times. This usually happens when you have bleeding of the stomach from it. What kind of diet is he on? And when do the symptoms start? Usually it will follow not too long after you eat, and certain things can set it off. For example, fried or greasy foods can aggravate your stomach more and cause worse symptoms. Did he ever complain of upper abdominal pain, or have a low appetite?

It could be that it was only temperately treated. He may have to go on something more than just that. I know for mine, it happened right after I have birth. I used Zantac for it and eventually it got a little better so I stopped. After a few more months I went to see a GI doctor and endoscopy showed my stomach was inflamed, I had open sores everywhere and erosive esophagitis. This all was after only 5 months. I was put on Omeprazole and had to watch my diet. I still do actually. Talk to his Ped and see what they recommend. You might also want to take him to a pedatric GI specialist and have him looked at.
