Gender determination at 12w3d

Gender determination at 12w3d

3032099?1213318408
I had an ultrasound at 12w3d by my Maternal Fetal Physician and he asked if I wanted to know the sex and I explained that I would love to but thought it was too early. He said that they have been able to tell as early as an 11w5d pregnancy. He said he saw pink in my future. Earlier his technician had said the same thing.  I am getting a lot of flack about how this is too early to tell.  THEN I went in for an unroutine ultrasound at 15w2d and the hateful technician said it was too early to determine gender. UGH! Help! Is my Maternal Fetal MD possibly right?

My friend learned the gender of her baby at about 17 weeks. They usually wait until about 20 weeks. I think I learned the gender of my son at around 18 weeks during my last pregnancy.

Maybe your dr. has an idea, but I wouldn't go painting the nursery just yet. 12 weeks seems quite early if you ask me. I don't think the baby even HAS any bits/parts to see at that stage. They haven't developed yet. But then again, I'm no doctor and I don't have a degree in baby formation in the womb. I'm just going by what I read in my pregnancy books.

I found out with my middle son at 12 weeks 5 days. But it is way easier to tell with a boy. I would wait until the 20 week scan if they suspect girl. With T they clearly saw the penis and were able to do a blood flow test to determine if it was the penis or the umbilical cord, it was a penis.

I found out when I had my U/S at 12wks and my SIL found out her sex at 13wks. Babies reproductive organs are fully developed at 11wks. So I was told by my doctor.

I found out when I was just over 12 wks...but it was a boy so he had it all popped out.  Some of those early u/s are really good and if the doctor has seen many in their days, I am sure they are pretty close on predicting them...but usually they say 80% sure.  However my dr said 95% sure when he saw the goods!

perhaps, b/c of it being a girl, just the complete absence of any little genitalia down there is assurance enough for them to make that prediction

my first pregnancy, i was told at 12 weeks and the doctor who did my ultrasound said that he knows for sure because he had great machines and never makes a mistake. but fact is that the baby is not always develped enough to be certain at that age and its just a guess. but he was right. i had a girl. and the second time around, i found out at 15 weeks . i went to a different place because of my insurance. they were right too.

It's a 50/50 chance that you will have a boy or a girl.  =)  That is what my uncle always said to me when I got all into the gender talk.  My SIL and my sister were both told they were having girls well into their 30w marks and they both had BOYS.  I was told at 23w that my little one was a girl, and sure enough she was... she is my fiance's 4th girl.  =)

With my twin pregnancy, at 13 wk u/s, I was told it was 2 girls.  At our 18 wk u/s, they realized it was 1 boy, 1 girl.  I wouldn't paint any walls just yet!

It has been my experience that if you go in for a u/s that is not for gender identification, they will not tell you and the excuse is always that it is too early to tell.  At my 12 weeks scan I saw a penis.  The doctor told me she wouldnt even look and that all babies have bumps down there and look like boys at that point.  6 weeks later it was confirmed that I had seen a penis.  You really never know until that mid pregnancy u/s.

I was basically in the same boat at the original person who started this chat.  I will be around 15.4 weeks tomorrow and am paying to get an ultrasound specifically for the gender determination...I will let you know if they were right!  So far, my original dr & ultrasound tech both say I'm having a girl...I will inform everyone tomorrow ; )

from that picture, you cannot tell.  There are no obvious boy parts so thats why your doc prob thinks its a girl.  But the sonographer is right, they usually wait until 18-20wks before confirming it (especially if it is a girl as boy parts tend to be more obvious).  In order to confirm it is a girl, they need to see three echogenic (bright) lines between the leg representing labia. I donnot see this in the picture so it is ambiguous.
