Personally, I use Mary Kay. I haven't found anything that works as well as their product. My faceFace pain adapts quickly, so I alternate their 3-in-1 cleanser and the washclothes, combined with the BCT (blemish controlControl Control rx toner) and acne gel when needed and that really helps. I have struggled with acne since... I don't remember not, and this is the only thing that has helped my skin. Plus, it is so great in so many other ways. Hope this helps :)
Well for me in the beginning when I had just regular acne I used clearsil pads and it worked and is safe during pregnancy. Now I have developed PUPP(bad bad pregnancy acne) and I was told to use hydrocortisone cream. It's all over my face, chest, shoulders and some on my arms and stomach. Good luck. There isn't much more to do I guess. The clearasil I use has a active ingredient of salicylic acid(aspirin), which in topical form shows no problems during pregnancy or at least that's what I've read.
I use Neutrogena soap for acne prone skin (the bar, not the pump). It is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. I even tried Proactive, and it didn't work out for me. My dermatologist recommended it (neutrogena) years ago. I use Oil of Olay for sensitve skin to moisturize. Good luck, I feel for you!
I cant find anything that works either. I wash my face 2x a day with two different acne washes and it is still greasy minutes afterwards!! I am so ready to use Palmolive or Dawn to cut the grease.LOL. It works on greasy pans!
Really need to watch what you use. Anything with salycylic (sp) acid is a no-no and in one of the recent parenting mags said benzoyl peroxide (active ingredient in proactive) was also a no-no. Also avoid ANYTHING with vitamin A or retinol right now. (excess Vitamin A has been linked to bone deformities)
Gentle cleansing, perhaps wiping with witch hazel a few times a day would be the best thing.
I asked my Doctor about using proactive and she says it is ok, she said small amounts of the active ingredient (benzoyl peroxide) absorbs into the skin at such a slow pace that she was not concerned w/ me using it...as long as you are not ingesting it, duh (but you may have a Doc that says its not ok, you should go by what your health professional suggests)....It seems to have helped me so far in my pregnancy....it is after the birth that I have horrible acne problems...at least that is what happened w/ my last pregnancy...We will see what happens this time around...
i worked for a dermatology group for a few years, we had many pregnancy induced acne patients. there was not a whole lot we could do. if you have oily skin you can wash twice a day with either neutrogena acne wash(okay by the doctors i worked for, may not be with yours so double check) or a antibacterial liquid soap. no more than twice a day though as more causes rebound oilyness.
blotting your skin between washings with rice paper can take away some of the oil and making sure to keep your hair and fingers off your face as much as possible may help too. both of those are notorious ways of introducing oil, which in turn traps bacteria and leads to further breakouts.
if it is severe some doctors may give oral antibiotics for a short course, but it's not advised. cortisone can lead to more breakouts called steroid induced acne if used when you don't need it and whiping with alcoholor wiitch hazel, while very cleansing and safe, can lead to rebound oilyness when your sebaceous glands try to compensate for the sudden dryness.
it's a pain in the butt, i know, but basically, wash twice a day. moisturize if need be with a lotion that says oli free and non comedogenic specifically on the label and don't let your fingers or hair touch your face. blot between washings...also a powder designed for acne prone skin such as cover girl clean can help control the shine and oil.
the pregnancy acne you have is hormonal, so there is just not much to do aside from hormone therapy, which is bad for the baby. it's all about coping and waiting it out. sorry.
yeah its not severe. i think ill just stick to soap and water untill the babys born. i just thought it would have cleared up at least a little by now. thanks every1
I haven't wanted to use anything either really- I am in my second trimester, mine is not horrible, but more then non-pregnancy- I found that the dove bar soap nuterium (Sp?) works reallly well to keep my skin clearer then if I am using a different soap... maybe it will work for you too?
