Group B strep

Group B strep

Hi all mommies,

I'm in my 37 weeks of preggo. I took group B strep test last week when I went to see my OB. He said that I carry the bacteria and will get antibiotic during delivery. My question is that will my baby get infected with this at all. If it does, how bad it is going to be? How does I get this kind of infection? Is it dangerous to me and my baby?

I think with the antibiotics your baby will be fine.  I think some people are carriers for this and never know.  If you have a c-section then the baby has no contact and will be fine.

it is very common to have group b strep, which is why they test everyone for it. as long as you receive antibiotics, both you and baby will be fine. even if you didn't receive antibiotics, chances are your baby would not get it, but it's best not to take that risk. there's nothing you did wrong to get it.

I was 41 weeks, I was leaking a little fluid for 2 weeks. Sadly my baby died even before I went into labour because the step b had gt into babies lungs and stomach.  So yes Strep B can harm the baby b4 going into labour, however this may just have happened to me because my membranes ruptured.  Midwife sadly failed to return my phone calls even though she knew I was leaking and has the show for a whole week.
