HCG INJECTIONS

by kelbre, Apr 21, 2006 12:00AM
Hello, has anyone ever been given HCG shots on Peak + 3,5,7,9?  My doctor said he was going to try this this month.  I am confused. I cannot find what this does anywhere. I thought HCG shots were supposed to be before ovulation to bring it on?  Please help.

I've done the HCG injections twice now. What I did, was used the OPK packs, and when I hit my surge, I would take the shot. Some Dr.s will break up the shot into many days, mine never did. I just took one. But it is taken when you get your surge, before ovulation. The first time i did this, it worked the first try! Second time was on the second try! Good luck to you!!!!

I took a hcg shot last friday but i was being followed closely by my MD. they did a vaginal u/s every other day until i had mature follicles. onces they were mature i took the shot that night and i was told to bd on the night of the shot and the next two nights. i'm now half way through my 2ww. i went today to have my pregesterone check so i'm hoping for a sky high level. oh, i also took clomid this cycle 50mg).

Thanks to both of you for your comments.

I'm still confused though. He said the injections would be on Peak Day + 3,5,7,9, which is way after ovulation.  He's also going to have me take clomid on days 3,4,5. What does this do and are there any side effects?

I did not have any side effects from the shot. And it may be normal for you to take it those days. I think Dr.'s do different things. I do know you can take them in several intervals over several days. As far as Clomid, I'm not sure about side effects. I hope this works for you!

I don't know much about the hcg shots - i know i took one once  - my dr. gave it to me after checking my ovulation on the day i would most probably ovulate so i don't know about those other days, but i took clomid and didn't really have any side effects - i think the side effects can be anything from nausea, moodiness, headaches...i think just regular hormonal side effects - it could be more - it should say on the package or pamphlet what the side effects could be (but the best would probably be just to ask your dr.) i know that i felt fine while taking the clomid and the only thing i got (but i also got this from using something else called letrazole - b/c the clomid wasn't working for me)was a cyst in my ovary from overstimulation and it went away after a few weeks (but my dr. monitored it) i didn't have any pain from it. good luck with the clomid and the hcg shots - hope they work right away for you and you have good news to share soon!!

Hi Emma1,
Question for you... do you have a problem getting pregnant or keeping the pregnancy viable?  My doctor prescribed me HCG shots to be taken on days 3, 5 and 7 after my LH surge. This is to raise my progesterone level.  The hope is that this will keep a pregancy (If I am) viable.  He tested my progesterone level last time I was pregnant and it was low.  I have been pregnant twice, both ended in the 4 and 5th weeks.  HCG injections is my case is to help my body produce more progesterone.

Hello, I just realized you posted.  I am taking this for the same reason.  To raise progesterone after luteal phase.  How far pregnant are you now?

hello this is my 1st time posting here-I too took my 1st trigger shot this month and I am now in my 2ww.  I took clomid 100mg 1st round this month and the side effects are horrible!  I had moodiness so bad that I told my hubby I wanted a Divorce!  My ?? is how long after the trigger shot do I need to wait to test to see if I am PG?  Thanks to all and baby dust!

I don't know yet. I too just took the injections.  My last one was last Friday.  I now have to waite to take a pregnancy test about 4 days after my period (if it doesn't come on time).
How are you doing?  I feel the shots have worked so far... another week and we will see if I actually got pregnant.  Sending good vibes your way.

Thanks for posting back.  I didn't think anyone else was reading this since it's been so long ago.  Let me know if you get a BFP.  Have you had any side effects from the shots?  I just took my 2nd one today.  I have 2 more left.  I've had some mild right ovary cramping.

I have taken clomid on days 5-9 then having an ultrasound on day 12 or 13 and if I have a mature follice they are giving me an injection of hCg. I then have progesterone levels drawn about 9 days later to make sure they are high enough if I would concive. I have done this now for 2 months and working on the 3rd month now. Does anyone know how long or how many times they recommend taking the clomid?
