HCG levels after miscarriage (blighted ovum)

HCG levels after miscarriage (blighted ovum)

In Sept (06) my husband and I decided we were ready to start trying to get pregnant.  By the end of Sept, I was looking at 3 positive pregnancy tests.  In November (10 weeks pregnant) I was using the bathroom and noticed some blood.  My husband took me to the hospital and after two ultra sounds, a urine test, blood test and six aganizing hours later the doctors informed us that we did not have a "normal" pregnancy. They said the baby was not developing to the stage of pregnancy I was supposed to be at.  They told me to go home and that I would pass the fetal sac and tissue on my own.  Three weeks later, I did just that.  It was very painful and absolutely the most horrible thing I've ever had to go through.  So, almost 10 weeks later, I am still having to go to get blood tests done because my HCG levels have not returned to normal.  Is this unusual?

some women it takes longer for the levels to return to normal mine only took 2 weeks but i was only 7 weeks preg with eptopic so i had really low numbers some women still had higher levels at 14 weeks after m/c. I am so sorry that you are going thru this and i hope that you stay strong and I am sure you will get preg again and have a healthy baby good luck.

i was going to post this same question today.  i had a dnc for a missed mc at 7 weeks on 9/27 and STILL havent had  hcg<5.  i had a 2nd "dnc" in the md office on 12/1 and have had levels drawn since.  25, 2 wks later 14 2 wks later 9.  so i am EXTREMELY frustrated.  i have to go in for ANOTHER us today to see if their is residual tissue.  im so worried i will NEVER be normal again.  i got pg the same time as a girl at my work and she is 6 mos pg!  this is ridiculous.  i dont know if i should be upset with my md, or if there is nothing more she could be doing.  i have to wonder how many others have gone through the same thing?  is there anything else md can do? or is it just a horrible waiting game?  is it bad practice that i went under anesthesia and they clearly did not get it all?  even after the 2nd time?  im soooo over this!

I had a D&C on Sept. 21 (I was 11+ weeks pregnant, but the baby had died at 8 weeks), and my levels didn't return to normal until Dec. 15 (about 12 weeks later; I'd been thinking it was 10 weeks, but I just went back and counted). It's incredibly frustrating to wait so long (and to go through so many blood tests), but hang in there. Your levels WILL come down!

Did they ever check to be sure you passed everything? I'm so sorry you are going through all of this.

Hi,
I also have sort of the same sorry.  I had an M?C on Dec 2nd/06.  I did not have a D&C but I did get Cytotec on the week-end.  My numbers last Friday 6 weeks after were still 968.  I hoping that this week they will be much lower.  I feel like I will never be the same again.  I still bleed and pass tissue.  My hubby and I are planng to celebrate when it goes below 5.  I just want to start trying again.  It is so frustrating!!!!!!  Good luck and don't worry they will go down.  Mine even went up for a few days from 1600ish to 1800ish but then they dropped again.  The highest that they were was 18,000.  Good Luck and I'm very sorry for your loss.  Love and prayers.
