HCG levels and Lightheadedness

by S.A.M., Mar 24, 2004 12:00AM
I am 7 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. My first symptom from day one has been lightheadedness.  All my blood work has come back OK, sugar, HCG levels, etc. I've had an ultrasound that looks OK also. Ectopic pregnancy has been ruled out. My blood pressure is also good.  My question is: could the doubling HCG levels that happen every 48 hrs. be what is causing me to be so lightheaded.  I am nautious but not throwing up, am tired, sore stomach, etc. - typical symptoms.  I am just lightheaded everyday to the point of being scared to even drive. My Dr. says it's probably low sugar but my blood work does not support that claim.  If it is the HCG levels doubling that is causing this, would it get better at week 12 when the HCG levels start to drop?  I'm scared at the thoughts of feeling this way for the next 8 months.  I had slight lightheadedness and headaches when I was pregnant with my first child but nothing like this.  I feel at this point that I can't even concentrate or function well.  Please let me know if it could just be the HCG hormone causing this, Thank you.

it could be just the baby sucking all the nutrints out of your body.. eat a good healthy meal and make sure you eat three healthy meals aday with snakes inbetween healthy snakes perferably see if that helps.

I don't know if it could be the hormone level or not.  However, when someone complains of lightheadedness, my first response is to check blood pressure or check for signs of dehydration.  Was your blood pressure lower than usual for you, if so, how low?  Have you been eating and drinking ok?  Are you urinating as often as normal?  These are just some of the causes of lightheadedness that come to mind first.

Regards,
Shelly

My blood pressure is always good.  Around the 120's over 75,80  or so.  I'm urinating normally.  I don't think I'm dehydrated.  Not throwing up.  Of course I'm not eating as much as usual because of the nautiousness.  My Dr. said to eat plenty of protein to stabilize my sugars.  The blood work didn't show that my sugar was too low or high though.  I had some slight lightheadedness when I was pregnant with my first child but not to this degree.  I've read that lightheadedness is a symptom of morning sickness and that morning sickness is caused by the HCG hormone.  I'm just trying to put two and two together.

I'm having to use progesterone suppositories because I've lost my corpus luteum.  I don't know if they could be making the lightheadedness worse or not.

They say not two pregnancies are alike.  I'm just hoping when I hit twelve weeks I feel better.

Thanks for your help and any one else's help who may have experienced lightheadedness in early pregnancy.

i'm having major dizziness/lightheadedness today as well.  i'm only 4.5 weeks along though, so i'm not sure what's going on.
i think the rising HCG might have somethign to do with it.
i didn't have this last time with my ectopic, so i'm kinda glad for it.  makes me feel pregnant ya know?  silly, but true! =)
i thought maybe it was b/c i needed to eat, but i just had lunch and i'm still dizzy.  i'm on prometrium 2x/day and a side effect of that is dizziness, however, i usually notice it only at night.  today it's been since i've gotten up.
i will probably call my Dr. if it doesn't lighten up soon.

I've had the exact same experience with both of my pregnancies-within the first 10 days after I missed my period and found out I was pregnant I started getting dizzy and lightheaded.  All of the same medical concerns were ruled out as well. I still get the same blood sugar explanation but my blood sugar is fine. So even if I couldn't give you an answer as to why this happens, at least you'll know your not the only one.

I had lightheaded and dizziness late in my last pregnancy.  It ended up leading to them deciding to induce me because they couldn't find out why I was having such a Neurological symptom.
