HCG levels aren't rising properly, should I panic yet?

So last wednesday I had light spotting and as I have previously miscarried I decided to go to the emergency room to see what was going on. They did tons of bloodwork and a transvaginal ultrasound. The doctor said my levels were a lot higher than he expected them to be at this point in my pregnancy based off my ultrasound. They believed I was only around 5 weeks instead of 6 1/2 according to my dates.
I went back Friday to have my levels checked again and they had only risen 55%, from 36000 to 56000. Had them checked again yesterday and they have only risen 20% in 72 hours. They believe I'm miscarrying again. I don't want to believe it, my partner and I were so excited about my pregnancy. Can this all be normal considering my levels were a lot higher than they expected them to be already?
I go back again tomorrow and friday for more bloodwork and an ultrasound on Friday as well. I'm trying to ease my fears, can anyone give me any idea what could be going on?

Hi! The HCG levels first rise, then dip slightly, and then rise again. So this could have happened in your case. Take another test to confirm this. In case the levels continue to dip, then yes, miscarriage is possible. Either ways, I suggest you try and find out the cause for repeated first trimester abortions. Some causes tend to recur and you must be careful about these. Generally first trimester abortions or abortions occurring in first three months are due to fetal abnormality, genetic causes, Rh blood group incompatibility and low progesterone hormone. Infection of the uterus, endometriosis, fibroids, etc are some other causes for early abortion. You need to consult your gynecologist and run some tests to rule out these causes. Take care!
